Editorial Review: Amazon.co.uk Review: There's something exceptionally comforting about a short story collection like Girls' Night Out, Boys' Night In. Firstly, there's the choice--this is a truly bumper package, with more than 30 stories by some of contemporary fiction's most familiar names including Kathy Lette, Matt Beaumont, Mike Gayle, Josie Lloyd and Emlyn Rees. Not only is there some superb writing on offer but you're guaranteed there'll be a story for every mood you're in--be it optimism, anger, revenge, love or hatred. And if you embark on a story you don't like--and there may be a few of those--you can just move on. A few pages further on, there'll be another to grab you, such as "Obedience", the story of a local murder (a nasty stabbing with a cauliflower knife) told by a man more interested in his puppy's progress at obedience classes; or "Delivering Happyware", in which two teenage girls struggle with crushes and their summer job as door-to-door touters of "speedy mops", freezer boxes and toast cutters; or even "Little Boots", an "unfairy" tale about a man whose wife has long since become preoccupied with everything but him and his new dog--a rangy beast with outsized paws and a face full of teeth the size of hunting knives. Like Nick Hornby's Speaking with the Angel, Girls' Night Out, Boys' Night In has been produced for a good cause.  Rating: - Witty and definitely one for the ladies!I was very fortunate to get this book free with a magazine i bought from my local supermarket. I thought the stories were very witty and definitely one for the ladies. Although there were some sad stories, check out Red Letter Day and The Alma Club, it was such a good read. It was full of great and realistic short stories. I took this book with me to work everyday, which made my boring and tedious journey even quicker. The best story was definitely "Revenge", watch out boys its always the quiet ones. And another great story was "The Fortune Teller", all i can say is you never know what's round the corner. To sum it up in one sentence is: YOU MUST READ THIS BOOK! Rating: - Good ReadThis book had a nice mixed bunch of short stories. The best one was "What goes around..." MEN BEWARE!!! Rating:  - The girls were better than the boysI'm not being sexist but the short stories by the girls were much better than the boys. They had more diversity & humour. Overall though, the book was a disappointment compared to its predecessor 'girls night in.' There were some good one though - Isla Dewar's 'the alma club' was very well written & a touching story as was Fiona Walkers 'red letter day' But to be honest they are the only two that really sood out. Rating: - Good, mixed bunchAs others have said, many of the stories do seem a bit self-obsessed (we're not all like that) but it's a fun read, esp Chris Manby and Anna Davis. The boy's - despite their keenness on canines and masturbation, do go a bit further and have written some great stories. I especailly liked Michael Marshall Smith's Last glance back (weird) and Marc Blake's "BigHead" (a classic) and look forward to reading their other novels. Buy it - and not just for the good cause. Rating: - a great beach readHaving read the last collection of stories i was pleased to see this new collection out just in time for my hols... and i was not disappointed. however i enjoyed the womens stories more, my faves being Colette Caddles which was very satisfying, Emily Barr's which was gripping and unexpected with an excellent ending and isla dewars which was very readable. all in all a good collection of stories which gives you a taster of the authors work.
