![]() Rating: - A beautifully dark and dramatic finishLake of Souls sees Darren and Harket travel to a mysterious world to find Harket's true identity. Lord of Shadows tells the story of Darren returning to his home town, haunted by dreams of him becoming the monster of the night. Sons of Destiny sees Darren and Steve have the chance to end the war, with one becoming Lord of Shadows. After a highly dramatic ending to book nine `Killers of the Dawn' the Lake of Souls was a must read and weren't we treated? The thing that makes these books so readable is Shan's approach. His unflinching and highly realistic style with no clichés makes it unique. He was preaching through that ending and here we see the consequences of the main talking point so far. We see Darren's vulnerability about being alone. He needs to get away from reality and so travels with little person Harket to a wasteland. This wasteland is terrific. For the first time in the saga we are seeing a story unfold into an adventure, a sense to explore and find new things. This is different and brilliant because of it. Packed with mystery at every turn, not to mention the drama and another beautiful twist, book ten is one of the finest of the saga. Book eleven Lord of the Shadows is the darkest of the series by a mile. With the constant nightmares and violent imagery Darren is enduring, the author has cemented his intent, and has laid down the darkness in a way that is extremely vivid and controversial to. The action is always there, if not as action packed as the war series. The fact that Darren is going home is a beautiful thing, and one that was always going to bring back memories and open up the past. The dramatic and unthinkable climax justifies this, and this is the finest ending of them all, and that is an amazing feat considering the endings we have all read in the previous instalments. It won't take you long to turn to book 12 and you won't be disappointed with the opening as we see a shocking realisation and a groundbreaking ideology unfold. From there we see reunions and some more action, not to mention the mouth watering prospect of the Lord of the Shadows. Told in three parts, part one is the best with the action and intensity so high it is almost unbearable. The interlude right in the middle justifies the meaning of claustrophobia with a horrible scenario included to justify the cruelness of the vampire world. Sadly the final part is overloaded with information and explanations and falls short of the entertainment we had in all previous novels. Nevertheless this has been one of the finest sagas ever written with a fine sense of dramatic realism, not to mention a mystery and excitement of another world and every single book must be read for an ultimately thrilling experience. 9/10 Rating: - FantasticThis is a wonderful book. You simply MUST read it. It's gripping, fast and emotional. The storyline is fantastic, and the characters seem so very real. It probably one of my favourite books of all time. However, you may want to keep a box of hankies at close reach; the author is fairly merciless and isn't afraid to kill off his characters. Because of this, you really don't know what's going to happen. Unfortuanatly, I had the story spoiled so it didn't turn out as riviting as it would have been. I would advise you read the previous books before starting this one, as they give you a greater insight into the story and characters, although a short summary of the story-so-far is present at the start of each book. So, keep clear of spoilers, and this will turn out as a beautiful, unforgettable story that you will remember long after you finish it. Rating: - Best author everI have read all of Darren Shan's work and find them to be the best i have ever come across. The story is gripping, the plot line exciting and very visual and inventive. It pulls you in and is a saga you will never forget! One wonderful feature is that unlike most books, it is totally unobvious as to who will suffer next, yet the characters all tie to you individually. And i can say this about all of his books, none have dissapointed. If you haven't read Darren Shan you are missing out! ***** Rating: - Saga of Darren shan (vampire destiny trilogy) This is one of the best seires i have ever read its so amazing, after i read one of the books i had to read the next its gripping. I like the way he makes it feel so real by not over exagerating it! its a must read if you like his kind of books. he is a great author i have read all of his current books!! Rating: - The best in this series! At the beggining of the first book, Darren Shan says that the following books are all true, yeah right! Darren Shan, once again proves he is an excellent mild-horror writer with these three books. He once again shows that he can describe objects, surroundings, people and feelings all in vivid detail - you can really understand what it would be like to be in Darren's shoes. These three fast-paced books are Numbers 9-12 0f The Saga Of Darren Shan, the last three books of the series. And, in my opinion, the best three. The tenth book (The Lake Of Souls), continues straight on from when Darren's tutor died, and showing how the Darren feels, in great detail. When they get back, Harket starts having nightmares and is beggining to go mad, so Mr. Tiny comes and tells Darren and Harket that to save Harket, they have to travel far into the future and find out who Harket was before. There are many dangers lurking in the skies, the water and the land in this time. Thier mission: To get to the lake of souls and fish out Harkets soul. Book 11 (Lord Of The Shadows): After coming back from the future world, Darren finds that the nightmarish world will be created by either him or Steve! And Steve returns to the Cirque Du Freak, and kidnaps and kills Snakeboy's son, making a fool out of Darren. He finds out that Steve had a child with Darren's sister when he was gone, making Darren furious. Also, he finds out, that The Lord Of Shadows cannot be stopped. He starts to prepare to have a final battle with Steve. In the twelth book (Sons Of Destiny), well, I can't really give much away since it's the last book, so I'll just say this book tells us the final battle of Darren and Steve. Each of the three books are really short, altogether they will take you maybe 1, maybe two days to read. There are new characters introduced, just characters from previous books. The beegining is well written, slightly after the 9th book, but, the ending is really weird/dodgy, it does spoil the last book.
