![]() Rating: - An old one but a good oneI had this as a child and have introduced my own daughter to it. It is a funny and sweet book that adults will enjoy as much as children. The moral of eating lots of different things doesn't appear to have impacted on my children yet but I live in hope. Rating: - Lots of funI read 'Bread and Jam for Frances' when I was at primary school and it's stayed in my memory ever since. The illustrations are beautiful, the story is funny but with a message too - that variety is important. One of the best things, though, is Frances' rhymes about food...really worth reading. Rating: - Another brilliant Frances bookRussell Hoban has a knack of writing witty amusing books that are as much a joy for the parents as the children. Both our chidren (eight and five) love his books for the humour and the strong character of Frances that comes through each one. In each book Frances goes through an experience and emerges a wiser (what? racoon? badger? person?) girl the other side. This may sound preachy, but it isn't, mostly due to the skill with which Frances is drawn. In this book we are introduced to the problem of faddish eating, and see how Frances triumphs in the end. The song about jam which goes through the story is delightful. Try searching the Internet for "Bread and Jam for Frances" or Ebay for "Bread and Jam for Frances".
