 Rating:  - Great book on classical mechanics. I must agree about the fact that in the book there is not much transition form basic physics that 14-15 year olds would do in school to more advanced concepts of mechanics. Another point is that edition after edition they haven't changed a word. For example in the chapter on friction I believe they should have changed their comments on the nature of frictional forces since their edition in 1977 to now as there has been a whole branch (Tribology) of science researching the area. But they haven't. However, this is still one of the best books (the best)I have seen if you want to learn mechanics on your own. The main idea behind this textbook, in my opinion, has been to give solid foundations on which to build your solving techniques on. So it is not straight forward to learn from this book since you will get confused easily as you need to learn how to choose what to apply. For that reason, this book is perfect for those who want to truly understand mechanics and not just solve problems. Moreover, you need the very basics of differential and vector calculus, scalar and vector products, vector geometry, calculus and maybe double integrals if you want to calculate first and second moments in the plane using double integration. Like one of the other reviewers comments, well illustrated and wonderfully explained. Rating:  - One of the most difficult books to learn from in existenceThis book managed to turn a fundemental area of study into one of the most difficult to understand courses that I have ever taken. There is simply no transition from BASIC concepts to ADVANCED concepts. It was like trying to solve a triple integral, using knowledge learnd in kindergarden. I would advise against buying this book. Or better yet, i'll sell you mine! Rating: - THE BEST BOOK EVER IN ENGINEERING MECHANICSWell, I'm not new to those authers. All their books represent one of the best in field, and their mechanics book is one of them. The text is well-organized, the material is presented professionaly, the problems help to understand and grasp the subject that you feel quite confident in your ability. A smart textbook. No one can recognize what he/she misses in engineering mechanics untill he/she has the opportunity to study this book. Rating: - Fabulous Book - A Bible for MechanicsI must disagree with what the other reviewers have said. This book is the best book I have ever come across for Mechanics. The approach is pictorial and problem-solving techniques are marvellously illustrated. There is an enormous amount of well-graded problems, so if you cant solve one problem on your own then you have many more to try. A Bible for Mechanics. Rating: - This book was not written to help you learn Engr. Mechanics.I have used both the Statics and Dynamics portions of this book and I have a theory that this book was written so that students would not be able to learn without having direct help from an Engineer. I was not able to learn anything from this book in a resonable amount of time. I wish my Univ. would start using a different book ASAP.
