 Rating:  - great if you live in a Spanish speaking countryI have been living in Mexico for 2 1/2 years. I have just finished an intermediate Spanish course and my teacher recommended this book. I have studied the first two chapters and have already learned a great deal of useful, practical Spanish. A look through the book shows me that it is full of the Spanish you need if you are living or spending a lot of time in a Spanish speaking country. It is full of words and phrases that you will not find in a dictionary or normal Spanish course. I also looked through Book 1. I wish I had known about it when I moved here as I had enough grammar to understand it at beginner's level. Each level treats the same subject matter but at different levels of proficiency. For example, dealing with the telephone, the bank, the dry cleaner, the plumber, the car, the electrician etc. This is far more than a phrase book but can function as one. It will give you the vocabulary and idiomatic phrases you need to deal with real lifesituations Ideally one should use it to supplement regular Spanish lessons. It will help you greatly in day to day life. If you are not spending a lot of time in a Spanish speaking country it's value to you may be a lot more limited. The books are very well organized with good exercises. I will buy all three. I think it is somewhat unfair for someone to give it a one star rating sight unseen! Rating:  - Buying the relevant language book for your level of learning. I was very disappointed that I couldn't view any pages. I already have Schaum's vocabulary book and Schaum's grammer book which are superb, but I am loath to buy a language book not knowing the contents.
