![]() Rating: - Quite insperationalQuite inspirational After being hooked on the tv show, and aching to do something similar for quite some time, I decided to give the book a go. Jimmy has a very relaxed and quite simple writing style that is easy to follow, but can be a little "diary like" and monotonous. This in no way detracts from the enjoyability of the book though. The book makes you realize that the tv series is VERY heavily edited, and actually, Jimmy does a little better out of the farm than you are led to believe on tv. I suppose a story about a guy just scrapping by with little help or staff is better for ratings than the truth! Jimmy is to be commended for his return to a more traditional way of farming, with his vision of a multi livestock farm being refreshing in this world of high yield agriculture, That said, it's well worth a read if you are aching to return to a world where food tastes good again. He even includes some basic recipes. Enjoy Rating: - A very good book.A very good book, very interesting and informative. Jimmy has put into practice what a lot of people want to acheive - a healthier lifestyle and better quality food. I think he was slightly over ambitious in his plans, as no on farm project is ever going to be straight forward, however as he had not been involved in a similar project before he would have not known this. There are also a couple of blinding errors, but only ones that pigs farmers would notice. Overall a very good read. Rating: - Adds a little to the TV series (but not a lot)Having seen the TV series I was hoping for something that would give a little more background and a little more depth but this doesn't go as far as it might. OK it adds some detail and throws a few recipes in but is that really enough to make it worth it? Jimmy is undeniably a likable chap with a great and ideallistic idea but he isn't a writer. What's here is good but could be expanded on to get to being something worthwhile. If you saw the series but missed some of the programs then buy this, but otherwise you're better off with some of the Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall books. Rating: - AWESOMEThe best book EVER! This man is a genius. Thoroughly enjoyable read with a truely insightful look at farming today. Wonderful for us city dwellers who dream of pastures green - lots of useful advice and tips. I cannot commend him more. He's done well with that lovely girlfriend too... lucky man. Order on line too - his sausages really are to die for. Rating: - A great companion to the short TV seriesHaving been entertained by a couple of the episodes of Jimmy's Farm on TV I thought the book would fill the picture out a bit. Well it does and more. Not only do you get a fuller picture of the process of building the farm and what life was like doing it but you also get more of Jimmy's endearing way. All this makes it a very enjoyable read. For me, a city dweller, the book has just the right amount of detail to be informative and not boring. If you want to follow Jimmy you will need more than he tells you but here is a book to inspire.
