 Rating: - a treasure for schools , nurserys etc etcThis book yelled"Buy me, buy me"and I couldn't resist. I work in school and it reminded me of how precious our charges are. Rating: - Every childcare organisation should have a copy of this bookProduced by UNICEF, this book illustrates children's rights as set out in the UN convention on the rights of the child. The text is simple enough to be understood by fairly young children but conveys its message very effectively. It is illustrated in a variety of styles, showing children from all over the world in different situations. I have used this book both with the children attending my out-of-school club, and also with the staff to raise their awareness of what children in our care are entitled to expect of us. I would reccommend this to parents or anyone working with children not only as a beautiful picture book, but as an invaluable resource in a society where multicultural issues and the rights of children are becoming increasingly important. Rating: - A powerful reminder of our responsibility to children.I actually bought this book as a christening gift. There is a wonderful foreword by Archbishop Tutu hi-lighting how innocent children become victims of wars they do not understand and how we must ensure that we always protect them from such horrors. Then as you start to read the book you are captivated by a beautiful double page illustration from leading authors and illustrators to accompany the ' rights of the child' statement that has been chosen. The statements are a powerful reminder of our responsiblity to children and how we influence them on aspects of love, family values, religions, disabilities and friendships. This book will become a firm favourite of children and adults and will be read time and time again. Indeed some of the statements could become bedtime prayers.
