![]() Rating: - It was a life storyIt was particularly a good book but sometimes it was boring. Women were abused alot in this story book. Men drank alot and tooked there frustration on there wives. Everyone pretende to be someone who they was not. Bogart pretended to be a tailor, Popo pretended to be a contractor etc. i learnt alot from hat he talked alot.In general it was a good book. Rating: - The lost men of TrinidadMiguel st is an interesting and funny novel about a small community of black/asian people living in a small town in Trinidad. The novel consists of 9 or 10 stories focusing on the lives on the 5 or 6 men. the stories are funny because they focus on the all the men desperately struggling to escape Trinidad. their lives are hopeless and they try every tactic to leave or some how be repected in the community. Its all about belonging, struggling and escapism. Women play a small or invisable part in this novel. All the stories are seen through the eyes of a young narrator, who observes what it is like to be a man in Trinidad. A light-hearted read, not hard work. Rating: - Trinidadians aren't all that illiterateThis was an excellent book! It expreesed the lives of the men of northern Trinidad. It was hilarious yet there was a deeper meaning that most people didn't get after reading the book. My favourite character was Hat, simply because he was greatly liked by everyone on Migel Street and he gave the best advice. What i didn't lie though is that the author made Trinidadians out to be carefree people who always 'limed' and never had education in mind. This was a great literature book, though, and deserved the Nobel Prize it got. Way to go Sir Naipaul! you've done us Trinidadians proud! Rating: - Amusing and poingnantA beautiful portrait of the inhabitants of Miguel Street located in a derelict corner of Trinidad's Capital Port of Spain. Set during World War II, the story is narrated by a precociously observant neighbourhood boy. The mood shifts from sweet melancholy to anarchical fun as we discover the lives of Popo the carpenter, Man-man staging his own crucifixion, Big Foot the bully or the lovely Mrs Hereira in thrall to her monstrous husband. An amusing and poignant book. Rating: - Utter brillianceI first read this book ten years ago, and return to it frequently for the sheer pleasure of reading it again. It is delightful in it's simplicity, small dramas writ large against a colourful island landscape. It is an engaging masterpiece, full of rich and diverse characters and brilliantly funny, by far my favourite Naipaul and one of the best novels I have ever read. Someone somewhere must be working on the film script of it. Try searching the Internet for "Miguel Street" or Ebay for "Miguel Street". You might also be interested in the following great products:
