![]() Rating: - Dull and DisappointingI normally love Adele Parks but this was very poor. The Jack Hope character was utterly ridiculous and the endless chapters devoted to his amazing prowess as a lover were deeply boring. Martha's sudden transformation from 1950s housewife to trendy slapper was totally unrealistic and the sub plot of her sister Eliza dumping Mr Sexy then dating a series of chinless wonders was badly tacked on to justify the title. I took this to read on holiday to Portugal and didn't bother bringing it back. Rating: - Adele Parks: Other Womens ShoesThe book is very well written and gives you a good taste of married life and a true reflection of having children. Untill her husband decides to leave her then disaster strikes! What i do admire about this book is how well its in touch with our feelings towards love ones. Its about a married couple who split up due to the husband playing away. Martha and Micheal have always had a solid marriage and Micheal starts to loose interest. He makes the decision that he will leave his wife. Martha is distraught and finds it hard to cope with her two children. The books shows the real emotion of anger, guilt, desperation and true strength. Martha has a sister who lives the opposite sort of life to her and both sisters envy each other. But is swapping and changing ourselfs the right way to do it ? The books shows that we are what we are and no point in changing if we are happy ? Martha's sister Eliza is funky, daring and outgoing. They work together to help Martha get through traumatic times and find peace with herself and hectic lifestyle. This book is combined with emotion, truth and laughter which makes it a fantastic read! I was sad to read the last page! Rating: - The bestA very good read. I have read a few of Adeles books now.. and im hooked. This has to best one i have read so far. No matter what book you are reading of hers you can always relate to something that is happening...or has happened...or someone! She writes with so much depth and feeling its as if she has been inside your mind! Absolutley brilliant! Rating: - Good read but not a great readThe first time I read this book, I really couldn't put it down. However, I re-read it again recently and it just didn't stand up the second time around. Basic plotline: Martha- happily(ish) married- husband leaves her. Martha then discovers when she meete new love Jack that she is infact a yummy mummy. Sister Eliza- fed up with mucky boyfriend- gets shot of him to look for a rich banker type with a decent pension plan. The two sisters are likable. As a mother it's good to read a realistic account of what it can be really like to care for small children in a world that isn't always that tolerant of them. BUT, the thing that I found so off putting this time was Jack, Martha's new lover. I mean, would any woman really find it a turn on that he wants to add you to his list of "naked friends" God I know it is the twenty first century and all that but does anyone else agree that that is just a no go? I just wanted Martha to tell him to get stuffed. If it was a choice between Michael (estranged husband) and Jack (faithless saddo maybe should have a chest rug and gold medallion) I think I would choose a night in with a good dvd! Other then that, there is no denying that it is a good read and I do enjoy Park's quirky writing style. Rating: - Brilliant!!!!!I absoloutely loved this book. It had the perfect mixture of love, hate and lust. Martha was a wonderful character who you couldn't help but like, even at the beginning through her "doormat" phase I warmed to her. Unlike some of Adele Parks other books, this one kept you wondering right until the very last page what was going to happen and who the two sisters would actually end up with. I would totally recommend this book to anybody, it was a great read. Try searching the Internet for "The Other Woman's Shoes" or Ebay for "The Other Woman's Shoes".
