Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Look out for the Snattacats!
This book was the first of the sorcery books that I bought and read. Unfortunately, I collected them in the wrong order as a result of various book shops not stocking all of them at the same time and one had to be ordered too.

There are four in all, but I got the third, The Seven Serpents, first followed by the second, Khaire - Cityport of Traps, then the fourth, The Crown of Kings, ending with the FIRST, The Shamutanti Hills. All in the wrong order!

The Seven Serpents is set in the wilderness, rather than a city of undergroun cave, as you travel to seek out the castle of your enemy and reclaim an important crown that he stole.

As you travel, you learn that your mission has been discovered and that seven messagers, the seven serpents of the title, are taking the news ahead of you to forwarn the bad guy; some wizard creep in his fortrss in the hills. Therefore, your task is to kill the seven serpents and keep your mission secret.

The seven serpents each have their own particular powers as a result of them being unique. There's the Moon Serpent, Fire Serpent, Sun Serpent, Earth Serpent and another three, but I can't remember them at the moment. Still, you must catch and kill all seven if you are to win the book.

A favourite of mine, but I don't think it's the best overall of the sorcery books. That's not to say that it's a good read and that newcomers to fighting fantasy won't love it. I found it to be a good adventure as you get to travel around and encounter different stuf in you crusade to kill the villain's snake servents. It's totally original.

Eash serpent has it's own strengths and weaknesses, depending upon which one you're facing and it's up to you to use your intelligence and skill to find it out and exploit it to the full. If you don't get them then you get penalised in the next book, The Crown of Kings, that makes it harder to win.

The cover and pictures are quite impressive, I thought. The pictures inside have a certain chaotic quality to them that adds to the book I think. I think that this is a great adventure and should be bought as it's worth it.

It's harder to beat than The Shamutanti Hills, about the same level of hardness as Khaire - Cityport of Traps, and easier that the last one, The Crown of Kings.

I'd advise you to get all four if you're into these books and stuff as they can be played on their own but form episodes of one giant four-book adventure when read together!

Rating: 1 out of 5 stars - THE WORLD`S MOST GRAPHIC CHILDRENS BOOKS!....SORCERY 1 AND 2
I Recommend:

-City of Thieves... (Fighting Fantasy Gamebook 5)

-Caverns of the Snow Witch... (Fighting Fantasy Gamebook 10)

Armies of Death... (Which is like "LORD OF THE RINGS " film)

-Bloodbones... (Which is like "PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN")

And...THE CURSE OF THE MUMMY... which is like you know what!

all the books were made before the films FIRST in the 1980s! (Go figure)!

Iv canceled my bid.. sorry but have just seen the cover of the rest of the books on Amazon and i am disgusted by them as i have small kid that i don't want looking at that graphic cover of the fat green man WITH INSECTS IN ITS BODY /thing and the lion-monster with the ripped, dead body by its side these 2 books must be the WORLDS most graphic children's books
covers. once again im sorry to cancel my bid i am now going to complain of the makers of the books via email and i strongly urge you (YES YOU) to do the same
PS: YES I DID USED TO READ THE OLD BOOKS WHEN I WAS SMALL.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - A welcome return, but not the best of the genre
At last Fighting Fantasy returns with a new title! As a long-time fan I am glad to see the series return. This said, this is not among the best of the adventures available - though like most of the books, it has its moments.

The strengths of this book are its dungeon design and the huge array of items available. Many of these are red herrings, but a surprising number have some use in the game, meaning that, even after several plays, the "right" course through the dungeon is unclear. The dungeon is complex enough to require substantial mapping, a joy for those who like this aspect of mastering a gamebook. Expect, too, a return to basics for the genre, with dragons, goblins, thievery, mercenary warriors, dungeons, mysterious strangers, magic items and all the rest.

The downside is that (like Livingstone's Crypt of the Sorceror) it is almost impossible to beat. Even with a maximum in the randomly-generated stats, a player will have trouble completing the quest, which requires beating a monster with similar stats and another which drains skill. In other words, you're not going to complete the book without "cheating" at some of the fights, or else being extremely lucky. I find the fun of the books to be puzzle-solving, and I like to beat them fairly, so it's frustrating when the combat scenarios are set up to make the book near-impossible.

Most of the word-count of the book goes on the dungeon section, so the story is correspondingly minimal, but expect a few plot twists nonetheless.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Ever wanted to be a Superhero?
This book is a must have for anyone who ever wanted to be a superhero. Fighting Fantasy fan or not.

You can choose what supervillians you will face and how you will fight them.

All in all this has to be a MUST HAVE for any Superhero fan

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Calling all Road Warrior Fans
To anyone out there who loved th Film Mad Max 2: The Road warrior, this is the book for you.

The gamebook in itself is very like the film Mad Max, but with YOU in the driving seat. You can choose to stop and help people or drive past them.

Also watch out for a certain charchter from film who makes a appearance
