![]() Rating: - Some useful information, but rather wordyI found the book useful in explaining the basics of what the different type of funds are and how they operate and there is a good bit of general investing advice in this book. However, it can be hard work to get to this because it repeats a lot, and sometimes trys too hard to convince the reader about its conclusions. By the time it gets to making the point, you may have started skipping over, or lost concentration. It is also very US centric, covering the US tax system and recommending US funds - these sections are of little use to non-US readers. I also feel it is a bit weak in one crucial area: how to select a good fund. Rating: - Well written and insightful but too drawn out.The 2 or 3 chapters in "Investing for Dummies" was sufficient coverage of mutual funds for the average person. I highly recommend " Investing for Dummies". Rating: - Easy to read, interesting, and very straight forward! This book rocked! Being a college student totally drowning in debt, I needed some guidance. I'm so glad I bought this book. I'm now well on my way in getting out of debt, and becoming financially secure. Rating: - A good intro to Mutual FundsBought this book as a gift for my son ---gives a good understanding to the novice investor on what mutual funds are and how they work. Very well written. I also highly recommend More Wealth without Risk and Financial Self Defense by Charles Givens. The chapters on Powerful Investing in MoreWealth without Risk in paticular offer more complex strategies than what Mr Tyson offers here. I highly recommend Mr Tyson's book toanyone interested in getting started in mutual fund investing...hen pick up Givens books for the real meat. Rating: - Great information and easy to read! This book will get anyone new or fairly new to mutual funds up to speed easily. It is actually written in a style that won't put you to sleep! The advice he gives is very useful and sound -- even the advice on when NOT to invest in mutual funds. Since the book was written almost a year ago, some of the sections on specific fund and companies may be becoming somewhat outdated, but he goes into enough detail on how to pick funds, read prospectuses, etc. that you can find funds that aren't listed in his book.
