Customer Reviews
Average Rating: out of 5 stars

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - Comprehensive, lacks thoroughness, superfluous reading
This is an extremely 'waffle-packed' and 'dry' book. To demonstrate this, I'll quote chapter 1, page 1: "Describing Movement: Our eyes are good at detecting movement. We notice even quite small movements out of the corners of our eyes. Its important for us to be able to judge movement - think about crossing the road, cycling or driving, catching a ball"

...if 200 pages of that won't put you to sleep I don't know what will. It reads like you're 14 again starting your GCSEs!

However, this could be the perfect book for a teacher who is teaching Physics to undetermined students who gained grade C at GCSE and are hoping for the same at AS-Level. They may be entertained. To anyone else it is extremely boring, whereas the writers aim to be inspiring or though-provoking.

It is quite apparent from later chapters that because of its minimal coverage of the more complex theories, it doesn't expect students to grasp the theories to grade A but they're just included to cover everything to the bare minimum. A serious book would cut out the 'entertaining' waffle and use that space for self assessment questions, which must promote repetition and hard work. This book just doesn't have the insight.

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - All the key revison notes squashed into one little book
This book has all the information needed to for an AS-Level student to revise. For a student studying AS-Level Physics on the OCR specification, all the notes are here and follow the syallabus exactly. There are short and long excersises to complete so that by the time you complete them you should know everything needed for your exam. The only problem is that you may need to buy another text book for your research needs. This book gives you all the details you require for exam style questions but completing coursework and research tasks using this book becomes a challenge. "Physics 1" is deffinately the book to have if you are following the OCR syllabus but do not expect it to still be useful when you go to University.
