![]() Rating: - Saving my lifeI was stuck at home, off sick for 4 LONG weeks with a massive chest infection. Being a chronic asthmatic, this was not good! I decided to rid my cupboards of all those choking cleaning products which were making my quality of life even lower. The alternatives in supermarkets were limited.... and pricey! I remembered my mum using bicarb and vinegar to freshen up sink drainage systems, and scrunched newspapers for the final wipe-over for newly cleaned windows, but what else? The answer was this book.... clearly written, basic products (you can get Dr Bronner's soap on Amazon!) that are very reasonably priced, and you know EXACTLY what goes into the solutions you make. I read the book, cover to cover, in one sitting, and have already started to collect empty plastic containers to use as 'air fresheners' in which to place the recommended bicard and essential oil mix. I teach in a secondary school, and the budgets cuts mean our classrooms receive only a 5 minute flick with a damp cloth and mop each day. I will be making up the cleaning products, donning a face mask to protect me from the years of gathered dust, and set to work! My girls and I will start the New Year with clean lungs and a clean classroom. A happy, and healthy, New Year to all. If you must make a resolution, let it be to get this book! Rating: - Clean House, Clean PlanetWell, I am officially converted. I never in a million years thought I'd make my own cleaners, but here I am....and loving it! Karen Logan does a good job of making a clear, readable book with easy recipes and honest assessments of the hazards of typical household products. I got this book because my husband is so sensitive to chemicals and very allergic. He was recently sent into an allergic fit from toilet cleaner, and I decided to look for a better way! The book has tons of recipes which are pretty much some variaion on combining liquid soap, water, vinegar, and/or baking soda with some essential oils. At first I was rolling my eyes at the tons of tiny variations...then I used the cleaners and was impressed. I was particularly impressed with her Ant Stay Away spray, the glass cleaner, and the toilet scrub. She gives her cleaners cutesy names, which is annoying, but just ignore that and try them. Logan also gives some good old fashioned cleaning instructions, which may be a big help to some people. The recipes have an effectiveness rating, as compared to the typical products you would buy. The price and product comparisons are in US Dollars and are US products, but that is no big deal for UK readers, really. I highly recommend it! Rating: - Easy and effective cleaning receipes are enjoyable to use!I was thrilled to stumble across Karen Logan's book shortly after my son was born. I started to avoid cleaning because I detested using most household cleaners due to the harsh chemicals. I was also very concerned about my son's second-hand exposure or worse - possible direct contact. Karen's book educated me about the hazards of commericial cleaners and then taught me how to make my own simple and safe cleaners right in my kitchen. This information showed me that harsh cleaners are unnecessary and more important what natural products would produce similar results. Making my own products is also entertaining and educational for my toddler who is now able to "help" clean and I don't waste precious naptime on toilet bowls and bath tubs! Her receipes are very easy to follow and are effective!!! I gave away all my commericial products almost two years ago and have not gone back to one of them. It's so comforting to know that my family is no longer exposed to harmful cleaners and we are doing our part in protecting the environment. Rating: - Excellent tips on non-toxic cleaning. At the back of the book, there is an offer, if you send an SASE you'll get a free recipe card. Good luck! I sent for one for me and my daughter a long time ago, and no luck! Also, the fax number belongs to some poor woman who is being deluged with fax calls, the number is not for Karen Logan. I also had a question, does the club soda need to be fresh each time, or does it last from week to week if it's in a spray bottle? Rating: - Highly recommended, totally changed my attitude.Karen Logan offers practical ways to save money and be environmentally friendly. None of the tips are strange or difficult to incorporate into everyday life. I ordered an extra copy to lend out to friends. For a great housewarming gift, I give this book and a bottle of essential oil. Everyone loves it!
