The book is divided into two parts. The first section looks at the way our society thinks about and treats children. She points out the many ways in which our education, welfare and legal systems are organised for the benefit the adult world of employers and the economy. The concerns of parents come way down the list of priorities and the rights of children even further down. In the second part of the book she puts forward a realistic and comprehensive package of proposals which could realign our society towards the needs and rights of its youngest memebers. This is a readable book for the non-expert. I you are a parent you will find it unputdownable, but really everyone should read it.
