 Rating: - Fantastic!I have read many parenting books to date but this one is BY FAR the very best! It's not scientific mumbo jumbo or psycho-babble it is plain English and down to earth. You find yourself constantly going "oh yes - of course!" or "ah, thats how to do it?". I have tried a few of the techniques from the book so far and THEY WORK! Early days but I feel optimistic and excited about my girl for the first time in 3 years. The book makes you feel that you are not alone and far from an alien, you actually have a normal one! It's like having an experienced friend at hand 24/7 and it is a book I will dive into again and again as a reference aid when the going gets tough and I need some support. All teenagers should come with a copy! Rating: - Absolutely essentialThis book was *Absolutely* fantastic. I am currently re-reading it just after only having it for a few days. With so much turmoil between me and my step-kids, I've been at my witts end.. So much emotion that i'm not used to or ever had to deal with, so many negatives, so much tension, and oddly so very much anxiety!! I realise siblings will be siblings, and consider myself to be pretty laid back! Just WOW these two DO NOT GET ALONG and to be ANYWHERE near them is a nightmare. Sarah's book is probably the FIRST light of hope I've had in all of this. I even wrote to her on her web site saying I resented the fact that she'd not written more! ;o) Very easy, clear and intelligent reading; not to mention - extraordinarily helpful and of *tremendous comfort* in all the chaos. I've 'endured' a slew of books on this issue, all I can say is I WISH I'd gotten this one first...(20 some odd books later!) -- GET *THIS* BOOK (and no im not a marketing rep or anything, just very adimant about how much the book helped me!) Rating: - Putting yourself in your teenager's shoesWhat I loved about this book is that it helps you see things from your teenager's point of view. Sarah Newton's advice isn't about indulging your kids - far from it - but rather she shows how important it is to treat them with respect. From the title I was expecting something a bit 'jokey' and was rather relieved to find it wasn't like that at all. It's down to earth and practical and comes from someone who really knows what she's talking about. Rating: - Help my teenager is an alienThere is no such thing as the perfect family. It doesn't exist despite what you might read in magazines and newspapers. Thank goodness for Sarah. Her book is full of brilliant tips and strategies that you can keep beside your bed when you need it in an emergency (and believe we have had a few teen emergencies in our house and so have most of our friends by the way). Or you can read the inspiring stories about how families have dealt with life and come out the other end and there is life at the other end of teens and be prepared and ready when you house turns upside down.
