![]() Rating: - DisappointedI have loved the other 'Dark' books to the point where I couldn't put them down and had to force myself to eat and go to sleep. This one was a great disappointment which I had great difficulty in actually getting through. Not at all like the other 'Dark' novels. It was bland and boring and the narrative was nothing at all like the other books - as if it had been written by a different author altogether. It's made me wonder whether to invest in any more of the 'Dark' novels as if this is the direction they are going in then I would consider that a waste of money. Rating: - Finally, a "Dark" series book that I can give 5 stars to!!A Carpathian male who can admit he was wrong! My God has the world stopped? I have read most of the Dark series and enjoyed them all to a varying degree but to date they have all been in the 3-4 star range for me. I much prefered those were the relationship was more or less equal and some sort of choice was given to the woman. Here you have a strong female who is actually old enough to have realistically experienced the world and be the sort of mature mate who might actually be able to handle a centuries old alpha male! Unlike most of the human heroines in this series, Alexandra has strong family ties and is a rich and powerful woman in her own right. Added to this Byron is a more sensitive Carpathian, actually realising that his previous behaviour was wrong and learning from the lesson. He is one of the very few of these heros that I would be happy to have as a lifemate! I hope Christine gives us a book with the story of Domonic's sister - a powerful, ancient, magically trained female could be real fireworks in this Alpha world. Rating: - seriously bad bookI have read all of the Dark series and have loved them all. However this book is so awful, it's as if it's been written by a different author. The story is weak, the characters uninteresting. I was so disappointed when I read this book, I ended up not caring what happened to any of the characters. For goodness sake don't waste your money with this book, borrow it. Rating: - a different oneThis story does not follow in the typical style of ms feehan's books, I found this a welcome change. Byron is the senstive one, somehow he has maintained a little of the ablity to love or at least the knowlegde of how profound the emotion of love is. He needed someone to strengthern his self belief, and given him the love in order to forgive himself for actions in book 2 of the series. Alot of readers might be disappointed in Byron as he does display the routine macho behaviour typical in this style of book. Power and attuide are not everything especially after a bad day. He gives to his lifemate comfort and respect and more importantly the ablity to laugh. Please give this book a chance Rating: - Dark FantasyThe modern world mixes smoothly into the gothic in this latest in Ms. Feehan's two series, the DARK and SCARLETTI. Byron has lived for centuries, holding back the darkness that seeks to escape and rule his soul, waiting for the one woman who can bring him to life again and restore the joy in his life and world. At last, he has found her, Antoinetta (Toni) Scarletti, a blind beauty with the voice of an angel. He becomes a friend and protector to her family. Although she is handicapped and lied to, Toni is still formidible in her own right, well able to stand up to Byron's old world dominance of male over female. Together they must solve the puzzle of who is trying to destroy her family. Only then can she take her rightful place in his world. ***** As always, Ms. Feehan's beautiful use of language dances on the edge of erotic in its sensuality, without ever descending to tawdriness. She shows readers to magic and power of love, to transform a gray, nearly evil life into one of joy and hope. The loveliness if the concept of a man and woman destined for one another, even though separated by centuries and forced to wait for one another is an idea she expresses well. Parts of this book make it her best. But if you missed out on the others in the Scarletti series, you might feel slightly lost in some areas.
