![]() Rating: - A place required on everyones shelf for this bookI found this book very useful to me, and a great handbook for me to keep close by. I wished, I could have had this book in my possession before my first degree, as it would have made life a lot easier, with the scope of the content, and levels of certain details provided. More though, as a comprehensive introduction. I would recommend this book to anyone who would like to understand and familiarise themselves with the methods and techniques within the construction industry.I use the book as a guide and reference for my current role of project management. The book however, does also present the reader with mathematical equations, associated with the structural mechanics of design. Which aren't quite complete, in some cases, which may confuse! These are not provided to educate the reader in engineering math, but merely I would expect to illustrate the reasoning behind it. However, I would have liked to have seen the inclusion of some fully detailed worked examples to complement the relevant topics throughout, but nevertheless, the book is still excellent and is very good value. Rating: - Building Construction HandbookWell on its way to becoming a classic - I hope Elsevier continue to run with this one. I bought my first copy as a student in the late eighties and I still use it. One criticism/suggestion: why is it not possible to get this book in hardback? About to splash out on the latest edition anyway. Rating: - Construction bible...This book is one of three that should be in any student engineers library. For any one who is fresh to the industry or needs a reminder, this book offers all the facts and knowledge that you would need, and handyly refers to the building regulations where necessary. The pictures are superb for what they try to convey, and it doesn't contain any useless information that is likely to confuse you with. A superb buy... And the other two books.... Building Regualtions in Brief, and the Metric Handbook are must haves for design of anything... Rating: - FantasticUsed this for nearlly every assignment in college and Uni. A must have for any student or young construction engineer. Still refer to it every now and then. Rating: - If you are a first year student! This book is really good for explaining the basics, and if you are a first year student of surveying, architecture or even quantity surveying, then it's the perfect book. The illustrations are good (not always to scale!) and it's a really simple read and will explain anything you will cover the first year. You will most likely refer to it in other years of study, so it's worth every penny. At my uni, we referred to it in the first year as "the bible"!
