![]() Rating: - Spread a bit thinTried to cover too many bases - many of the countries are unique in their real estate markets and some of the information was sketchy. Still, I now have a better appreciation for the different areas that my wife & I want to look at so money not wasted. Rating: - A GOOD START I bought this book to see what all the fuss is about in property in the East. I was surprised to learn that so many places are good investment opportunities. Due to language difficulties most people would be put off, but it need not be like that. I know that a good banker who speak English is worth his weight in Gold. Thats the starting point . They should be able to recommend an English speaking laywer or notaris (you need to know the difference). Beware like back home that a survey is important, and that may be the hardest task. Also like back home dont be sucked into a cheap deal, it may be cheap for a hidden reason. Buyer beware!. Visit and ask around. Look for online blogs about the place, the people. The book does help a lot with localised information and follows a pattern of analysing each market. The key is to look in an area which interests you, (beach, country, ski report), with easy flights back to base. If the idea is to retire there, beware that many of the Eastern languages are very different to English and not easy to master. On travel experiences I found the Baltic countries the most attractive, but exceptionally cold in winter. Former communist countries that are democracies now offer good opportunities but there is still red tape to overcome. Rating: - Saved us a fortune! In one book there is a comprehensive review of 14 countries. We learnt enough in weekend's reading to narrow our choice down to two countries and four areas. Saved us a fortune in wasted travel and discussions with biased sales people. Tips, pointers, prices, hundreds of sources of immediate and current information and some invaluable warnings are packed into one snappy volume. Its even fun to read (sort of!!) Don't leave home without it....in fact with it you may well decide not to leave home at all as some countries look like serious wealth hazards. But there are gems out there still waiting to be uncovered and this book helps find them Try searching the Internet for "Buying a Property in Eastern Europe For Dummies" or Ebay for "Buying a Property in Eastern Europe For Dummies".
