![]() Rating: - Not an RPGIf mindless combat-heavy figure based Dungeon Crawls are your thing then this may be the game for you; however if you want to play a game that centres on role-playing look elsewhere. Rating: - Fresh but not new...Well presented, high production quality slipcase of the 3 core rule books for the D&D 4th Edition rule set. My players and I were surprised how much Wizards have changed the rules from 3.5 Edition, although we all agree this wasn't a bad move. Rules seem slick and more managable then previous versions, and the classes are very different, but it all appears to still have that "D&D" feel to it. My only concern is that the 4th Edition looks to borrow heavily from the World Of Warcraft (MMORPG) computer game.... again, maybe thats not a bad move (seeing WoW's success on the market), only time will tell. Rating: - DON'T BUY THIS GIFT PACK!!!At the time of writing this review, this gift set is £54.99. However, if you buy the 3 core rules individually, you'll save a further £10 (£44.97). I've not actually got 4th Ed yet, but with so many people either really loving it or hating it, I think I'll just wait until the price comes down for these books (if it gets much less than £15 each). I've enjoyed playing from 2nd Ed right through to 3.5 Ed, but one thing I do agree on is that WotC is certainly trying to make as much cash as possible, like Magic: The Gathering! Rating: - Greed has finally killed it offWith this latest corruption of Dungeons and Dragons, Wizards of the Coast have finally killed off what was left of the true origins of the game still clinging on in the 3.5 version. Ditching a whole host of character classes (druids and bards in particular) and some popular races as basic player options, stripping away the cosmology and alignment system, making the combat system even more computer friendly, Wizards have shown the true depths to which they are prepared to sink to make a fast buck and fleece inexperienced players. Do not buy this if you want to understand what made D&D great. Rating: - Much improvedHigh production values and a solid and interesting ruleset. I love the new art. An impressive level of improvement over the 3.5 ruleset, combining a higher number of options with a great deal more simplicity. As a side note, at the time of writing you get a much better deal buying the individual books from amazon than this slipcase set.
