![]() Rating: - a common sense guide I was surprised that the reviewer found the matter of fact tone and practical advice contained in this book 'negative', 'scary' and even 'horrifying'. It is in no way negative - quite the opposite. This book is a practical, commonsense guide to all aspects of primary school life - only one chapter is about choosing a school. As a parent and primary school teacher I think it would prove valuable to many new parents. It is informative, easy to read and accessible. The text is interspersed with first person pieces where parents talk about their own experiences of school, tips on things like parents' evenings and stress free SATs, and shorter 'talking point' style pieces on subjects such as school dinners or new initiatives like extended schools. Don't be put off - this book does what it says on the cover. Rating: - disappointingi bought this book from its review i read here. i have been searching for a good book to help me choose a primary school for my little boy. i am full of nerves just reading through all the ofsted reports on my local schools and thought a book may be able to settle me down and to not be so anxious. this book was the worst book i could have read. it felt so negative and scary and gave you a picture of a world that you would never want to have your child part of. all the points such as first day of school and settling in and bullying was just outlined as facts of life and nothing we can really do about it. the book suggests we befreind the teachers as they are so overworked that they would never be able to know who child even was! this book was horrifying and did nothing to help me prepare myself or my child for school. it has made me seriously think about home schooling as this seems to be the best option as far as i can see from reading this book. Rating: - every parent needs thisA brilliant book. Even if your child is already in primary school and you think you've got it figured you still need this book every parent should have one.
