![]() Rating: - great bookthis book i sgreat it gives you loads of good tips and advice this is deffinatley a book for adults though and not for kids cause its pretty tuff going for young ones Rating: - The Bible of comic drawingIf you have a small talent for drawing and you are pulled towards illustrating your own comics or characters, then this is the best book you can buy as a platform to build on. If you are wondering as to why your superheroes look out of proportion or you want to capture them in an amazing dramatic pose, then take a look in the book. It shows you every aspect of creating characters and storybooks, with a word on inking thrown in too. I also own the DC Comics Guide to Pencilling, and that really is a poor cousin in comparison to this book. Yes, the characters may look a bit dated as this came out a million years ago, however study this book, refer back to it, and take your drawings to the next level. Rating: - The best on the subject I have read.I bought this a while back and considered it a tad expensive at the time. However, it covers so much ground that it was worth it. At under a tenner you can't go wrong now. Covers the basics of shapes, perspective and figure drawing which other books cover EXCEPT using Marvel characters which gives it an added hook. There is a section on inking which was interesting but not much use to me plus how to pose and group a scene. The overlying message (i.e. the 'Marvel Way') is the exageration of body pose making the drawing more dynamic. In this respect it does VERY well with how you might draw something and then how you would do it the 'Marvel Way' Quite superb especially at this price. Rating: - Perfect for beginners yet still great for the more advancedI've been drawing comics (or trying to) for about 2 years now and without this book i'd be absolutely nowhere. If only i'd found it when studying GCSE art! The emphasis on over exagerated action scenes, dynamic camera angles and thrilling layout are by far this guide's greatest merit. Unfortunately the fleshed out marvel charaters have changed over the years and look a little dated now; but hey, this isn't a bad thing at all. The 60's style is simpler and it's cool to learn this way. If you're looking for more contemporary panel design check out Klaus Jansen's DC Guide to Pencilling Comics and Chris Hart's Cutting Edge Comics; the latter is by far best on how to achieve the contemporary look on anatomy in comics today. However i still come back to How to Draw Comics the Marvel way on the subject of stick figures and how to make them look cool before fleshing out (not kidding this is the cleverest part!). The part on inking is best ignored though I suppose it does give you little insight into the subject, but if your a beginner then you've a long way to go before you get to this stage. Brilliantly written by Stan Lee and the drawings are great too; if only Marvel would bring out a new guide by some of their younger artists. Although some of them have realeased similar guides under a different banner. I would advise anyone taking drawing comics seriously to buy all books on this very challenging art form available, and How to Draw Comics the Marvel way is no exception. It may be the most basic, but this possibly makes it the best. Rating: - Awesome ArtThis book is a great read for anyone interested in pointers for their own cartoon drawings. Once shelved with your other books it's a great place to look for inspiration, and keep your skills up-to-date (if you don't get much time to draw)!!!
