Rating: 1 out of 5 stars - Poor poor poor on Moldova
All I can say is that I'm glad this book has just been reprinted. I can only comment on the Moldova section as I've just returned from there, using - or at least trying to - this inaccurate, out of date, unhelpful guide. For example, this book says there are 11 trains daily to Odessa, Ukraine, from Kishenev in Moldova. There hasn't been a single train for 3 years. I hope the new edition improves on this HUGELY. And, if you're thinking of travelling across the Ukraine-Transdniestr-Moldova border, DO NOT DO IT. Even spending any time in Transdniestr is VERY difficult at this time (NOT as stated in this guide book) and you will get a lot of unwelcome attention from lawless police, border guards and army. Find another way across the border. Please. And Don't bother buying this book (on Moldova anyway)

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Very helpfull book
I stayed in Brasov (in Romania) for 2 months and thought that this book might not be that helpful as I wasn't travelling much around Romania but staying in one place. However I found this book so helpful, I was always driving into it, finding the best place to eat, where to go, how to get there, how much it costs, what to do etc. It is very detailed with a lot of places covered in it.
There is also lots of background covering the countries history and culture, which is interesting to read when you have some free time.
Only down side is there aren't any pictures so you can't really compare places much to decide the best place to go, you just have to go and see for yourself and trust what they say (they are nearly always right).
A Romania friend of mine sat up till 2am reading the book as she found it so interesting and she said she learnt loads about her own country that she didn't know. So if you want to know Romania better then Romanians this book is a great place to start.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Book Review
This is an excellent follow up to the previous book on Romania and Moldova from LP.

The information is concise, and lists not only the good places to stay, but also the ones to avoid.

The Maps in all the LP series now follow a similar format to those of the "Rough Guide" series, which, I personally, do not think are as good as the previous LP maps.

In a fast changing East Europe, the books manages to keep abreast of the changes, and the differences to the same book published in 2001 by LP are clear to see, and offer a more balanced view of Romania. In 2001, Bucharest in particular (and to an extent Constanta) were given a bit of a hard time. True, that these cities do have their problems (as do all cities), they were perhaps exagerated a bit. The 2004 version does well to offer the view that Bucharest is as safe (or dangerous) as any other place.

I was in Romania for over 1 month, and the information was invaluable. Whilst this shouldnt be treated as a bible, it is very handy to dip in and out of.

1 thing I would point out, Sibiu is under heavy reconstruction due to it being the European Capital of Culture in 2007, so bear this in mind.

All in all, this proves and essential guide for someone visiting Romania for any length of time.
