Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Bon jewer matey.....!!
This is a very well written book filled with gentle subtle humour that will make you chuckle. It's not meant to be laugh out loud and embarrass your self as a result if reading in public transport.

I found it a compelling and well written yarn produced by someone with an excellent sense of humour and a keen eye for observing folk.

The best line for me was Big John the builder greeting some one with 'Bon Jewer matey...' - just great.
I also enjoyed the smattering of technical stuff in it too - nothing too heavy at all - just enough to give an insight into what can involved in a project like this. It has really spurred me on to look in more detail into doing something very similar.

I also think this book will appeal to both male and female readers given it's softer side and some of the emotion going on - again nothing too deep just gives the book a bit of a more universal appeal. I've ordered the follow up 'Bonne chance!' and hoping for as good a read.

Lastly - As ever, excellent quick service from Amazon

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Parfait
Told in charming style by the author, a well intentioned but often `hapless do it yourselfer' of a couple's decision to move the Limousin region of France and their decision to renovate a rat infested barn and create a new live for themselves in a strange country. Very Gallic, very courageous, very funny and very moving. Perfect summer reading. Recommended.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Escapism!
Both myself and my husband loved reading this book, it was a delight from cover to cover. For those who know this area of France and the wonderful people,it is a book which makes you want to laugh and cry. The warmth and friendship that the locals extend to them is very real and so well portrayed. Also the frustrations are all too common. A gripping read for anyone doing a renovation in France.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Informative and humorous
I found the book to be humorous, often hiliarious, yet informative, a personal look at how one Englishman adapted to a new life in rural France. Richard is never shy to poke fun at himself - never at his friends and neighbours - and he gave me an insight into the country, its people and their culture. Some narrow-minded previous reviewers, I notice, criticise the book unfairly. Certainly this is no Driving over Lemons: I don't imagine that a book about life in France is intended to compete with a book about life in Spain. What's the comparison? The book is certainly never dull: the author is always upbeat, even in the face of adversity! A delightful read.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Not Dull, Not Dreary, Just a Delightful Read.
Unlike a previous reviewer, I found this book to be fun, exciting and totally engrossing. It told me most of what I want to know to fulfill my travel dreams, but left just enough to thoughtful imagination. Thank you for the lovely story and for the induction to the library of travel lovers and dreamers.
