This is the second volume in The International School of Sugarcraft - which, along with its companion, form a comprehensive course in cake decorating and sugarcraft skills. This volume covers the techniques required for the most elaborate and sophisticated designs suitable for the decorator who has mastered the basic skills. It is packed with imaginative ideas, all illustrated with colour photographs, accompanied by simple step-by-step instructions.

Five specialist contributors have pooled their knowledge to write this book which covers working with chocolate, modelling and pastillage, delicate lace and brushwork, advanced figure piping, runouts and extension work, plus a wealth of other topics. There is also a section on flowers, incorporating making and arranging sugar flowers and using real and imitation flowers in cake decoration.

The book is arranged as a series of twenty lessons, each one complete in itself and each taking the decorator one step nearer perfection. Finally, the book provides valuable information for the would- be competitor and suggests ways of designing, making and costing work for sale.


Nicholas Lodge, the Principal Teacher on The International School of Sugarcraft, is one of the leading lights in the field of sugar art. Nicholas has wide experience in baking and decorating cakes for commercial purposes, although much of his time is now devoted to lecturing and demonstrating throughout the world. Nicholas is author of `Sugar Flowers, Lace & Filigree' and `Pastillage & Sugar Moulding in The Art of Sugarcraft' series.

Ann Baber is well known for her versatile sugarcraft skills, particularly in the fields of chocolate and marzipan work.

Lindsay John Bradshaw is qualified as a chef, baker, confectioner and teacher and is one of Britain's top specialists in cake and confectionery design. Lindsay has written 11 books for Merehurst including Confectionery Design, his first book, and The Novelty Cake Book due to be published in June 1993.

Anne Smith has used her creative skills to great advantage in the art of sugarcraft. Her efforts have met with much success, especially her imaginative work with sugarpaste, which is widely acclaimed. Anne is the author of The Art of Sugarcraft -Sugarpaste.

Cynthia Venn originally trained as a cookery teacher, but became attracted to the art of sugarcraft. Cynthia is the author of `Smocking in Sugarpaste, Floral Designs for Cakes' and `Christening Cakes'.
