![]() Rating: - Don't buy it.....The percolator is easy to use, and makes good coffee, but....there is a clear design fault with the lid. The plastic part of the lid (which takes all the strain when you fill or empty the coffee grounds) is connected to the metal part by two tiny lugs which break off very easily, no matter how careful you are. You can only buy a full replacement lid (ie not just the broken bit) and it will cost you about [...] mail order. Its a great looking machine but if I had known I wouldn't have bought it. Rating: - Tendency to break, prodigious of coffeeI've been using this make of percolator for about a year now, so I've had plenty of experience of it. First impressions are good - it looks sturdily designed, the parts fit well and its stylish. However, it has a design flaw (as mentioned in another review on this site). The plastic part of the lid seperates eventually from the metal part, causing the liquid to leak out during percolation. This makes the coffee brew extremely weakly, to the point of tastelessness. I have been through about three of these lids (provided by delonghi under guarantee.) Now my guarantee is expiring, I'm getting concerned about its long-term usefulness. This appears to be because of an inefficient seal that works itself loose over time. It is not without other faults too. It can use a prodigious amount of coffee compared to a filter machine to achieve the same strength, meaning you tend to go through coffee faster. And of course, there is no filter on it, so it is much oilier than filtered coffee. In terms of taste, I find it does not have as much flavour as filtered coffee. By this I mean you cannot taste the earthiness of the beans as much as you can with a filter machine. It tastes a little washed out and diluted by comparison. The one redeeming feature is that the coffee is always piping hot throughout. Hot coffee is so, so important to me, and this stuff is much better in terms of heat than a filter machine equivalent. I think the best indication about the quality of this machine is that I am visiting this site because I am considering buying a new coffee machine. And this time, it won't be a percolator. I guess flavour trumps heat every time. Rating: - Great coffee, bad designThe coffee tastes fantastic and best of all it is hot, not warm, unlike those pesky filter coffee machines. The only problem is the plastic part of the lid broke off from the metal part of the lid within a couple of months of using it. It still works (although I expect one day to find perculated coffee all over the ceiling, it's gonna happen!). There is no competition for it, as the other perculators look like the one you see in the Roger Moore James Bond films. Pity they didn't design it a bit better . . .
