![]() Rating: - Solid wireless headphonesI bought these particular headphones a few months ago after reading the mostly positive reviews and the reasonably low price suited my budget at the time. The intervening period has confirmed what the majority of posters have said about this product, that it is superb for the price. I found the sound quality to be most agreeable for a wireless set-up, and I have been able to move round the house freely with no discernable degradation in volume or clarity. Moving a distance of 20m down to the bottom of my garden does no harm either. The other reviews do mention the issue with a slight hiss when the volume is quite low, or if there is a break in sound, say between music tracks, but I found if you experiment with the headset volume & tuner together with your actual equipment volume, your hi-fi, TV, or PC, the hiss can be pretty much be eliminated or severely mitigated. At least on my equipment. I have used this headset quite a bit and for long periods of time, and found them to be reliable and comfortable. I may move up to another Sennheiser wireless set with larger padded earmuffs, but these are doing fine for the time being. The other issue mentioned is that these headphones don't tend to stay on if you move around a lot, but they were pretty good with me. They are adjustable, but everyone has differing head shapes and sizes so you should take this into account when you get them. I guess there is never really a perfect "One size fits all" item when it comes to fitting individual needs. Just make sure you avoid the rather basic idiotic mistake I made intially of wearing them the wrong way round. So to close, I found this item to a very worthwhile purchase. Rating: - Surprisingly goodI am more discerning than most people when it comes to headphones, though I would not call myself a bona fide audiophile: my most advanced headphones being the Sennheiser HD280s, which I've also reviewed. Being a bit of a wired snob in that I don't generally trust wireless devices* to provide equal fidelity to wired ones, so I didn't expect much from the RS120s. I was pleasantly surprised when I tried them out with a Hilary Hahn CD. They are open, so they've got a fairly light, airy sound that some may feel lacks punch, but is fine for most music and is not overly tiring on the ears. Tuning can be a little fiddly, and I think that it is important to plug the dock in to the motherboard jack rather than a jack on your speakers (if using them with a computer) as I got some crackling when I tried that. However, coverage was excellent after some adjustment, and I was able to roam the house accompanied by a soundtrack. On to the physical aspects of the cans: They full headphones, but surprisingly lightweight, so they don't really press down on your head. They are fairly large and don't grip much, so if you have a smaller head they may be a bit loose. The volume and tuning dials are placed awkwardly on the back of one of the 'phones, although I don't know where else they could have been placed, perhaps on the side. The dock is a bit unbalanced and can be knocked over easily, especially if the headphones are on it. I'd recommend these to anyone who is considering midrange wireless headphones, they're pleasant sounding, easy to set up, quite comfortable, and reasonably priced. Note: Be advised that they are meant to be charged for about 24 hrs before first use, I am not sure if this impacts on the future capacity of the supplied AAA batteries, but it's probably a good idea to follow the instructions. *This includes headphones, computer peripherals etc. Rating: - Awfully disappointedSennheiser - I regarded them as a good name for headphones based on my experience with them in the 70s - a bit dearer than the "chunkies", but, from personal useage, worth it..but alas... Tuning and volume control wheels embedded in the earpieces feel, and are, poor and cheap, ditto saddened by the sound quality - if you can get it 'just right'!?! - sadly, I remained frustrated. The sound reproduction is not that(italics) impressive either. Although I'm not 'made of money', these are so disappointing that I'm already thinking about replacing them. :-( Rating: - Easy to use ? SureHaving returned a new but faulty pair of Panasonic wireless headphones to Amazon, I thought I would try these Sennheisers. The styling is great: tha transmitter base is very smart, and the way that they recharge by just sitting across the metal bars is FAR better than the Panasonic solution, where you have to guide a connector into a plug. They are held on the rail by magnets. Sound quality is OK, but lacks a bit of top, so you might want the more expensive models for true hifi. I agree with comments about how easy it is to detune them, while looking for the volume control: solution ? Put a small piece of tape over the tuning wheel! Overall, a great product and an even better price.. Rating: - not bad margaret, not bad at all...I've had a pair of these for over 2 years now and I think, for the price, these are very good value for money. With the base unit set up downstairs I can wander around my 4 bedroom house, to the end of both gardens and even into the loft with hardly any loss of signal, only the occasional short hiss of white noise. Tuning seems fairly stable and not that fiddly, once you've found the strongest signal it takes a fair bit of moving the tuning wheel before the signal vanishes into white noise. Contrary to many other reviews, I find them very comfortable and they do stay on my head, I guess we're not all made the same way!! The recharging cradle/transmitter is a very, very neat idea, just plop the phones onto the cradle and they recharge, no messing around with fiddly cables and adapters. They seem fairly well made and are up to the task of being a plaything to my 2 year old son. Sound quality to me is pretty good considering their price and the fact they are wireless. They go plenty loud enough and don't seem overly biased either way towards treble or bass. I use 3 sets of headphones, the Sennheisers, a pair of Sony Walkman style ones, and a very nice pair of Beyerdynamics. The Sennheisers sit in the middle in terms of sound quality, much better than the Sony's but not as good as the Beyer's. Which is fair enough considering wireless will (as yet) never sound as good as a decent pair of corded headphones. BUT, for me, these have one fairly big minus point. They use automatic level control (ie an audio compressor with a slow release time for those in the know). Say you are listening to a dance/electronic track and the intro doesn't have any kick drums or bass in it. When they do start, the signal level drops very noticeably to accomodate the extra audio energy carried by the bass instruments. Your hearing does get used to it as the track continues, but if the kick drums or bass stop during the track, the volume will slowly increase until they come back in and whack!!!... the track seems much quieter again. The effect depends on the type of music you're listening to, but the other day I played some dub with very heavy bass coming and going throughout the track and the volume was pumping away so badly that I found it unlistenable. Overall though, I'm very pleased with these headphones. Previously I had a cheaper pair of Phillips wireless headphones which were downright nasty, the Sennheisers are in a different league and didn't cost a huge amount more. I've got a large CD collection and I haven't got the time or inclination to transfer it all onto something like an ipod, so being able to wander around the house doing chores while listening to any of my CDs without disturbing anybody else is a godsend.
