 Rating:  - Don't throw it out, replace the batteries!!To all those reviewers who complain about the fading LED display / degradation in call length, I have one tip - replace the batteries. Rechargeable batteries do have a limited shelf life, so there is unlikely to be anything wrong with the product you have bought except the batteries are coming to the end of their useful life. We have had our set for well over a year, with reasonable usage. The call length performance started to suffer recently, then the LED's on both finally faded. Replaced with recommended batteries (NiMH, 550mAh 1.2V - its in the user guide) and we're back in business. No real major complaints about product - clarity of answerphone could be clearer, call time before energy runs out could be longer, but its not bad, and its not expensive. You might get better if you spent more, but we've had no complaints until the battery capacity issue started to impact on the call length, a 'problem' which is easily solved (and you'll have the same thing sooner or later with any phone using rechargeable batteries). Rating:  - Message Alert facility on BT1500Just responding to a comment made by Nen(UK). The BT 1500 does have a 'message alert' function. I came across it by accident! Press and hold the Skip (back arrow) on the base unit and you will hear Message Alert On/Off. Select 'On' and the phone will bleep continously until the message is picked up. Rating:  - Don't waste your moneyThis phone was given to me by my housemate to replace a phone that her rabbit chewed through the wire of. It's such a disappointment, especially as i had a pretty good cordless phone to start with! The sound quality is poor and i often get really bad interference which means i have to end a lot of calls early. Another bad point is that the battery cannot hold a charge for anything longer than an hour which is really irritating, especially as I use it to call family overseas every week and would like to be able to speak for longer than an hour. The ring tones are limited and also really horrible. Please don't waste your precious pennies on such a piece of rubbish! Rating:  - Great for the moneyIf you are after a budget phone then this is ideal. Slightly cheaper than its newer cousin (the 3500), the 1500 works fine if you treat it right. Firstly, charge the batteries fully before first using the phone. Secondly, if you do change batteries, use ones between 500 - 700 mhz. Don't be tempted to use more powerful ones, there is no need if charged properly, and BT themselves tell you not to. Finally, if you don't want 1571, TURN IT OFF! No answer machine will override 1571, as it is an external service. Personally I would spend a couple of quid more and get the newer 3500, but if you are looking for a bargain then the 1500 will suit you fine. Rating: - Very poor answerphoneSmart looking design but that's it. Biggest drawback is the quality of the sound on the answerphone. Messages are very unclear and it is virtually impossible to understand anyone who tries to leave their number for you. There is no battery backup on the answerphone, so the time and date stamp is reset after any power interruption. Also on my set, the remote access for the answerphone does not work. The battery life on handset 1 is very poor ( 48 hrs standby ), even after upgrading from 500maH batteries to 1000maH. Handset 2 is also difficult to locate properly on its charging station possibly due to poor contacts or design. Well done BT. Selling rubbish like this will just lose you customers. I for one, will never buy a BT branded product again.
