![]() Rating: - Classy, neat and functionalI bought this item in spite of the slating it got from the first review, and am very glad that I did. The objections seem pretty trivial ones (although if you have painted your entire kitchen black and it has no windows or electric lights, you may want to opt for a different model as the display will be hard to read). The first, and most obvious, bonus is the design. It looks far classier than most kitchen scales, and comes with a very sturdy stainless steel bowl. It feels like a high-quality item, and is nice and compact. The display is excellent - the screen is transparent and because it's separate from the base it is larger and far easier to read. It is also safer from spillages which can destroy cheaper scales. It has a clock which is handy if you don't already have one in your kitchen. The switches are situated intelligently and easier to use than the flat-panel ones I've used before. The pan is large and flat enough to take a good quantity of food, and you can also place serving bowls, packets etc. in it and weight straight into those. I haven't found anything that was awkward to weigh. The dual fluid/solid weight measurement system is great for mixing ingredients, and the bowl is easy to clean (and dishwasher proof). I've had a few scales recently but this one is definitely the best - looks great, easy to use, and does everything you need it to. The price is reasonable for the quality too. Rating: - I wouldn't bother with this oneDon't like this at all, here's why. 1) The base is curved, fitting the bowl well, but means that nothing else will stand on it. 2) Measures solids and fluids, great, until you realise that all it does is change the indicator, the figure remains the same. i.e. 5 fl oz = 5 oz? I don't consider this really a feature. 4) The bowl does not have a pouring spout for removing the liquid. 5) It can measure up to 5L, except the bowl only holds 1L, and see comment 1, also up to 5Kg, well, 1.5 Kg of flour fills the bowl. 6) The bowl does not store well upside-down on the base. 7) The LCD is not lit, relying on ambient light behind it, and a contrasting background, beware if you have dark work surfaces or kitchen walls! 8) Pressing some of the buttons squashes the LCD making the display malefunction, and shortening the LCD life. 9) This would (maybe) have been a good buy for £20, £50 is too much! On the other hand :- 1) It does come with batteries. 2) The clock is useful (if you can see it). 3) 10 year guarantee Extras A timer function would have been nice in this price bracket. To be able to adjust the position of the display would be good.
