Editorial Review: Amazon.co.uk Review: Adam (Leigh Whannell) wakes up in a dank room across from Dr. Lawrence Gordon (Cary Elwes) and the body of a guy who has blown his own brains out. Not a happy place, obviously, and it gets worse when both men realize that they've been chained and pitted against one another by an unseen but apparently omniscient maniac who's screwing with their psyches as payment for past sins. Director James Wan, who concocted this grimy distraction with screenwriter Whannell, has seen Seven and any number of other arty existential-psycho-cat-and-mouse thrillers, so he's provided Saw with a little flash, a little blood, and a lot of ways to distract you from the fact that it doesn't make a whole hell of a lot of sense. Wan and Whannell (who's not the most accomplished actor, either) pile on the plot twists, which after some initially novel ideas become increasingly juvenile. Elwes works hard but looks embarrassed, and the estimable Danny Glover suffers as the obsessed detective on the case. The denouement will probably surprise you, but it won't get you back the previous 98 minutes.--Steve Wiecking Average Rating:
![]() Rating: - Saw far saw goodI actually didn't even think I wanted to watch this film as horrors scare me and I thought it was just going to be a mindless gore fest, but it was an actually very good film with a thoughtful story. I did have to hide my eyes at quite a few bits, but I would certainly recommend it! Rating: - Keep those saw blades oiled!SAW is an ingenious take on the slasher movie franchise. Mixing satisfying puzzle elements with touches of Grand Guignol and inventive camera techniques this movie keeps the viewer entertained from start to finish. And the ending, although highly unlikely given the circumstances, is quite rewarding. Preposterous but great fun. Rating: - To my surprise, I really like this filmI love a good horror movie, and this is original, witty and very, very dark and gory. Great fun for any horror fan and with an ending I really didn't see coming, this shouldn't disappoint. Rating: - Great horror movie, full of shocks & twists This is the best of the Saw movies by a long chalk. It's gripping and twisted, with some great shocks in it and a very good hold on the viewer. It's gory & it's got some very good surprises in it, as well as setting the audience up for one surprise after another. An excellent film. Rating: - Fantastic!I am not a fan of gory films so had never thought to watch this but my son had told me that Saw was a good film. mmm, someone sawing their foot off! lovely! so I watched it. It is a shame that films like this do not get more recognition. It is a fantastic piece of work with an ending that is truly brilliant, and I can't imagine that the sequels could possibly live up to this but i'll give them a go. I was hooked right from the start and would highly recommend this film. If you don't like gore don't worry coz you really don't see much so don't let that put you off. Definitely one of my favourites now. Try searching the Internet for "Saw [2004]" or Ebay for "Saw [2004]". You might also be interested in the following great products:
