Editorial Review: Product Description: The Nikon AF-S DX VR 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6G IF-ED 11.1x zoom lens is designed for amateurs and professionals allike. The AF-S DX VR 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6G IF-ED adapts easily for use for landscape photography, weddings, wildlife, holidays and expeditions with a focal range of 27-300mm (equivalent to 24x36 mm) to avoid loading yourself with a host of different lenses. 2 glass ED lenses and 3 aspherical lenses minimise colour abberation, astigmatism and general distortion whilst maintaining high levels of contrast in any situation. The "Silent Wave" motor (SWM) makes the AF-S DX VR 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6G IF-ED focus quickly and quietly and includes a VR II vibration reduction function, the second generation of Nikon VR technology that will allow you to make the most of exposures that last up to 4 times longer (compared to 3 times for the VR system). Perfect for shooting in low light conditions. Flexible and advanced, the AF-S DX VR 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6G IF-ED will help you to make the most of the performance of your Nikon digital camera. ![]() Rating: - What a superb lens!!!This lens is absolutely fantastic and I would defy anyone to say that they are unhappy with it once they have used it. The versatility in a single lens is second to none, from nice wide angle landscapes to beautifully zoomed portraits. The image stabilisation is excellent and allows you to shoot at shutter speeds down to one thirtieth of a second with no real loss of quality. Negatives - lens creep, but so what!! Does that make a big difference to this lens. If you don't want to worry about introducing dust on to the camera sensor and don't have the money to buy several prime lenses then this is the lens for you. In one purchase you have an excellent quality versatile lens that you can use for the life of your camera. Internal focussing makes for ease of use with circular polarisers. You also don't need to carry around a barrage of lenses. Sure if you are a commercial photographer you will still buy extra lenses for particular types of work but if you take your photography seriously but don't have the funds to splash out on 3 or 4 lenses or carry the extra weight you can't beat this lens. If you are on holiday, walking, cycling, skiing, do you really want the extra weight of another lens when this one will do the job of several? This is just a superb lens and respresents outstanding value for money and versatility in a single purchase. Don't buy any more lenses than this one and save the money to buy a good flash which will probably enhance you photos more that another lens would!! Rating: - 18-200 DX zoom creepOptically this lense does everything it sets out to do, although with some vignetting at 200. However it does suffer from zoom creep, even when new, [I have an e mail from nikon admitting this] and this can only get worse as the lens mechanism wears. Records of lenses sent back to cure this are not good. In short this problem can only really be cured with a suitable elastic band which of course makes a bit of a laughing stock of an expensive Nikon product. The new Tamron lense out soon will have a zoom lock - a good idea for such a long heavy barrel that Nikon should have though of. Rating: - Perfect, but....This is a must have for any nikon fetesh. The 18-200 gives you the power of being everywhere and the colors are great at 18 mm. The weight is not a problem, for the first 100 pictures on day, but it can be hard to keep the 550g + body for a whole day. the f/4 is not a problem, but on 200mm the f/5.6 starts to "steal" the colorness of the fantastic pictures that the 18mm is capaple of. buy it and you dont need anotner one... Rating: - Good All In OneOutclassed in my opinion by the new Tamron 28-300mm VC ( not as sharp, though autofocus works better ) but still a great all rounder that allows you to go out all day without carrying a bag full of lenses. Recommended. Rating: - Very impressiveI bought the Nikon D80 with a kit lens - could not afford the camera and this lens at the time. The lens is incredible - the VR function means that you can take pictures in low light conditions without a tripod and mated wth the D80, taking shots from boats and cars finally works. The huge focal range means that this lens is likely to remain a fixed item on the camera unless I'm doing specialist work. If you can afford it - buy it.
