![]() Rating: - DisappointedI bought this phone from Amazon due to the glowing reviews so i had no actual experience of it before buying. Whilst it looks OK as soon as you pick it up it just feels cheaply made. Very light, cheap plastics, the screen should be a whole lot better. Sometimes i go to make a call(fully charged) and after i've entered a few numbers it goes dead. Once i put it back in the charger it's seems OK, but it can happen again. It's always OK on incoming calls though. I don't find the voice sound brilliant either, the callers voice has got bit too much treble. Never had that on any phone before. It'll annoy me too much soon and i'll go and revert to a BT one i suppose. Rating: - A great phoneAlthough its expensive, and slightly on the large side, it is a great phone. I bought because of its infrared and USB connection - to transfer contacts etc. As my phone is 3G, the sim card isn't compatible with most phones in order to transfer contacts. I have done this from ms outlook, and it is a very easy process. The phone also has more features than most people will use, plus the sound quality is excellent. So it'll be a while before it is out-dated. Think of it as a mobile phone for your landline - and you kind of get the idea... I've had a few digital cordless phones. And this is the best so far. Rating: - Quality PhoneOne aspect of this phone not covered elsewhere,(and my sole reason for buying it)is the ability to bar groups of calls via the handset.Do you have family members constantly calling premium rate numbers or mobiles.Up to 6 dialling codes can be barred and therefore calls cannot be made to them. I currently have 0870,0901,07(mobile) all barred and my phone bill has dropped over £25 a month. Some phone providers will bar premium rate numbers at source,(my provider Sky doesn't)however this can be inflexible. It may be you need to call say an 0870 number (nearly all businesses use these),if so you can remove the barring (pin protected) temporarily, then put it on again after your call. On a slighly negative note the "one touch dialing facility" is actually two touches, you have to press and hold down the corresponding key (1,2,3,etc),this brings up your phonebook entry, and then you have to press the green dial key.Why Panasonic couldn't have made this the same as most mobiles where you only have to press and hold the one key to dial I do not know, and how they get away with describing it as "one touch dialling facility" is a mystery. Finally for 0870 numbers (a modern day rip off) try web site "say no to 0870" it will often provide a proper "area code" number which will be free if you have a call plan with your provider.0870 numbers are excluded from call plans Rating: - Do you value sound quality? This phone is the odd one out in Panasonic's current line up. The 7120, 8120 and 9120 look roughly similar, and are clearly part of a product family of the same basic design but ascending features. But the 820 looks different, and is more expensive than the others, even though it is slightly less well specified. For example, it only has a 15 minute answering machine capacity rather than 40 minutes. Panasonic's own literature is not very clear about why this price premium is justified. It hints at it being the "flagship dect phone". Some dealers say it delivers better sound quality than the others. One reviewer reports that it is better because it comes from a professional range of phones rather than a domestic one. Whether this is true or not I can't say, as I haven't tried the other products; but I suppose it must be, or Panasonic would not be able to sustain the higher price. One reason to prefer this model might be its appearance. One reviewer describing it as looking sleek, like something Bang & Olufsen might have made. He clearly has different eyesight from mine. To me, it's different from the rest of the range, neither better nor worse. The arrangement of the numeric keys on the handset, with no gaps between them, is presumably for aesthetic reasons but makes it harder to touch type on the device. In some ways, the software is a little clanky. It gives equal prominence to commonly used items, such as listening to answering machine messages, as to rarely used functions, such as erasing the greeting so that the machine uses its built in announcement. It can list missed calls, and play back messages that callers have recorded; but the two are separate menu options, accessing separate lists. Philips's rival Zenia offers a single list, and each incoming call may or may not have a recording attached to it, which is a more integrated arrangement. The main thing I miss on this model is that while the base station flashes when a message comes in, the handset does not. You have to pick up the phone and examine the display to see whether there are any recordings. The 9120 handset does flash when a message comes in, as do many competing phones. So the reasons to buy this phone come down to: do you want the best sound quality? And do you believe this phone will deliver it? Because the literature is not at all clear whether it does in fact sound any better, and the other products in the Panasonic line up are better featured and cheaper in other respects. Rating: - AT LASTI AGREE WITH EVERYTHING JOHN MELLON HAS SAID. AFTER TRYING 3 DIFFERENT MODELS OF PHILIPS'S PHONES, THIS IS IS THE BEE'S KNEES. THE REMOTE PHONE IN THE BEDROOM AT NIGHT IS A LITTLE BRIGHT, BUT YOU CAN ALWAYS REMOVE IT FROM ITS CRADLE, OR PUT A SLIP OF PAPER UNDER THE CONTACTS. OTHERWISE, AN A1 PHONE SYSTEM.
