Customer Reviews
Average Rating: out of 5 stars

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Great radio, but you need to tickle your nose with classical music.
This is a great radio, and has almost taken over from television, which can be nothing but a good thing, and transcends the world of radio. Two minor faults; If a dvd player/tv, or electrical appliance is on nearby, the sound is terrible, and it has very poor sound body level with classical music, particularly complex multi-voiced or instrumental, which you have to listen to next to your nose for true fidelity, which can be tiring on the arms, unless you have a special bedside platform built, which will be worthwhile for the classical music sound is superb like this, if not at a distance like the bedside table, and in all other respects it is a tremendous superman radio, superman because I have a very low boredom threshold, especially for 90% of T.V, and am now no longer bored or mentally unchallenged, and therefore it gets 5 stars.

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - Some Minor Issues
I've been using a Pure One DAB radio (about £50) for over a year and am very pleased with it. But I thought it was time to get something a little more 'upmarket' for the lounge, something with a remote control, excellent DAB reception for classical music and without lots of trailing wires (i.e. separate speakers). Having read all of the reviews it seemed that an Evoke 3 would be almost ideal- almost because it doesn't have a built-in CD- which would have been nice. Anyway, I received the radio last week and thought it worth pointing out a few things which are not apparent from the current reviews. First, the sound is great, but, having more bass, seems more suited to music than voices- of course, you can change the bass and treble, but even so it does not seem quite as crisp as the One. Second, the display has quite a narrow field of view, so it is much more difficult to read than the Pure One, if you are not almost directly in front of the radio. Finally, the reception I get on FM is by far the worst of any radio around the house- it can hardly get Radio 4! On the plus side, the DAB reception, remote control, programme guide, record facility, pause and rewind are all great.

I paid about three times as much for the 'Evoke 3' as for the 'One'. Is it three times better? Only just- but don't buy it if you intend to use it mostly for FM- unless you live in a very strong signal area.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Best Radio on Market
This is a superb piece of kit, and distinguishes itself by being very well made physically. Most radios are cheap plastic with a tinny sound (such as Roberts and Bush which used to be superb but are now cheaply put together in China). The functions are advanced with easy-to-use recording, alarms and presets. Remote control is good. This radio downloads the week's schedule for all radio stations, which you can use to record ahead simply by selecting the programme you're interested in. Pleasing to the eye, nice and weighty, powerful speakers with excellent sound. This is a good improvement on the (excellent) Evoke 2 (which I bought 3 years ago). The only complaint is that the memory card to which programmes are recorded is not included and must be bought separately for £30, but you can record 30 hours of audio on it. Overall excellent and priced correctly (£169.99 in John Lewis). This is a better purchase than half a dozen £40 digital radios, as those radios lack power.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Regret not buying this sooner!!!!
I think just about everything has been written about what this radio is capable of. My advice is buy it, shop around for the best price obviously, presently around £160. For goodness sake don't worry about DAB + compatibility ( its a few years away ) Just buy it and enjoy the truely amazing sound this produces. I guarantee you will fall in love with this remarkable piece of technology.
PS I was thinking of writing 4 or 5 paragraphs of pro and cons, but its all been done. I'm a DAB freek ! Heard and played around with loads of kit including radios in the Pure range, but presently this is overall the best DAB you can buy.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Great Radio, but no support for DAB+
This is a great sounding radio and it is extremely well specified, but it is not future compatible. Like most current DAB radios does not support the forthcoming DAB+ standard. In other words, it will be obsolete in around 5 years (the only model that currently supports DAB+ is the Cronos II). All manufacturers seem keen to keep this information hidden, for obvious reasons.

Although the Evoke 3 can record programmes to an SD card, the file format is Mp2, the native for digital radio. Unfortunately, virtually no Mp3 players and the iPod do not support Mp2 and you need to convert the files to listen to them on these devices, not a problems but something to be aware of.

Well worth purchasing if you can live with the above.
