Editorial Review: Product Description: Going cordless means no trailing wires and a tidy desk. The toughball has an inbuilt Optical Trackball (mouse). as as you move, the mouse and keyboard moves with you. Ideal for those who like to sit back and have everything at their fingertips. Finished in a tactile rubberised finish, the Toughball not only feels good, it has a range of upto 10 meters. Average Rating:
![]() Rating: - Great knee keyboard with decent range, and great trackballI got this keyboard to plug into an Ubuntu living room PC. I have also used this keyboard with Windows XP. One thing I like about this is that it requires no drivers in XP or Ubuntu - it just appear like a normal keyboard and mouse. This is especially important for Linux, as I lost weeks of my life trying to get a Belkin bluetooth keyboard and mouse to work in Ubuntu. Unlike cheaper wireless keyboards which only have a couple of feet of range, and are designed for desktop use, this one easily works across the living room. It is contoured to sit comfortably in both hands, or on your knees. The trackball and positioning of the primary button are very natural - much more so than a normal mouse I think. Navigating with the mouse is certainly faster than a trackpad, and easily keeps up with the speed of mouse navigation. I've used alkaline batteries in it, and have never needed to change them in 12 months. Overall, an expensive purchase for a keyboard, but it is a perfect living room keyboard. The only thing I would change is to provide both mouse buttons on the right-hand side. This would make it more useful in first person shooters - where the trackball works better than a mouse. Rating: - Waste of moneyI bought it. I tried it. I put it on the shelf behind me and there it stays. Useless, utterly useless. It cannot be rocket science to make one that works. Rating: - Strongly RecommendedOverall, a very well put together media keyboard that I'd strongly recommend - there seems to be very little competition to this available in the UK. Unforunately, the keyboard was delivered faulty by Amazon - one of the microswitches underneath one of the mouse buttons had shattered, preventing it from working. However, the manufacturer is a small scale operation, and the support line included in the documentation put me straight through to an engineer who was very familiar with the keyboard design. As such, he was able to confirm the problem very quickly and send me a replacement component within 48 hours (for a nominal postage fee) which I could fit myself with a screwdriver and wire clippers. No call centres, and no beauracracy. That sort of pragmatic service simply wouldn't be available from a larger manufacturer. Rating: - very pleasedI bought this keyboard after reading other customer reviews for my media center pc, the microsoft ir keyboard is next to useless as the infra red receiver is blinded by both plasma and lcd displays, it works great if you turn your display off! This Accuratus keyboard is as others have said, absolute quality. probably the best keybaord I have ever had. The track ball does seem a bit quick and does not slow down if you adjust the mouse speed in control panel, but I you rest your thumb on the ring around the ball and use the tip of your thumb you soon get the hang of it. It is a clicky keyoard, I know some people dont like that, but I do, I feel the click , I know the key has pressed. there are no media centre controls, but there are play stop and volume controls, so you will still need your microsoft remote for media center. I would have prefferd to use microsofts ir due to poor security on wireless keyboards, if you are not aware of the risks you should be before buying! Rating: - Goes the distanceI am already impressed with the keyboard even though it only arrived today. It feels sturdy and robust, the trackball seems to track very accurately and their are two options to replace the 'left mouse button' one on either side of the keyboaard. My one fear before purchase was that the 15M distance for the wireless connection was exagerated but I am happy to say that it works over a least that distance even through a brick wall. I miss not having an LED for the Keylock status but It is not a major problem and would no doubt have shortened the battery life, having read the previous reports I thought I may have to change the BIOS settings to ensure Numlock was off on startup however this was not necessary. All in all one of my better purchases which did exactly what it said on the box!
