![]() Rating: - This Aint No L A ConfidentialAside from Get Shorty and L A Confidential most James Ellroy novels must be very hard to film. This film looks fabulous and the stellar cast are all good particularly Hillary Swank. The main flaw is the conclusion is pure guesswork/fantasy call it what you wish. I think thats where the films flaw lies. The DVD is excellent with lots of interesting extras. Personally I would disagree with the reviewers who have slated it so badly.Perhaps it should be listed as a brave but flawed attempt. Its still worth watching as the production values are first rate and the attention to period detail, rather good. Rating: - Beautiful but brutal, kept me glued to the screenIncredibly beautiful considering the brutal core of the story - certainly not for the squeamish. This film kept us glued to the screen, I lost track of time watching it and even though the crime the story centres around was horrifc and violent the film is beautifully shot. It is however a victim of trying to fit too much story into too little time and the buddy movie bit between the two male leads did make me cringe (Fire and Ice...! Oh dear...) On the whole, well worth a watch - but be prepared to sit down and be involved. I can see that I will watch this film more than once and enjoy it again. Rating: - rubbishafter rubbish film from brian de palma lets hope he has a return to form soon, this is bland, badly acted nonsense Rating: - Make notes, I'll be asking questions later.A complex who-dunnit with a good layer of Raymond Chandler hard-boiled dialogue laid on a specific era in America. You need to keep your wits about you to follow the plot which has more twists than a very twisty twisted thing. It isn't LA Confidential but it's not bad if you enjoy processing clues. Rating: - DisappointingLooking forward as I was to a repeat performance from the LA confidential school of cinema, I was astonished how bad this film was. Impenetrable dialogue, ludicrously convoluted and unbelievable plot, and a totally wasted presence of the talented Scarlett Johansen. Like some of the other reviewers, I had this on my 'must see' list for the cinema but couldn't make it - glad I didn't.
