![]() Rating: - Reader failureSANDISK EXTREME FIREWIRE READER Good item but failed after 6 months professional use. Spoke to colleague in US who had the same problem but philosophically said that 'these things don't last forever'. I would expect more than 6 months' use from such an expensive product Rating: - I'm sure it's good, but....Before buying this product, check to see if your laptop/PC has a 4-pin, 6-pin or 9-pin Firewire port. If it has only 4 pins, the reader will not work as it requires a 6 or 9 pin port. (I know it says this in the small print, but impatient types like me don't always read it!) 4 pins = no power = no good! It would perhaps have been nice for SanDisk to provide the capability for external power for those of us who are firewire pin challenged. Rating: - great piece of equipmentWhether if you are a pro-photographer or you go abroad and take a camera, you'll now how exhausting is having to wait for the "slow usb 2.0" to download all of your pics on your mac/pc. I can now download a 4GB full of pics in less than 2 minutes (it would take over 15 with the usb). So GREAT, GREAT, piece of equipment, affordable, light, nicely designed and very easy to carry with you. Rating: - Superb piece of kit.Having got tired of waiting for the USB based card reader built into my PC to download images from my EOS300D, I had a look for faster readers. As I've got a SanDisk "Extreme III" 1 GB card, and having had a look at a test of it, I went for the Extreme Firewire reader, and it's worth every penny! The Extreme III card is rated at 20 MB/s and a quick, pretty non-scientific, test showed 16+ MB/s when I plugged it into the Extreme reader. I don't know what the specification for the built in reader I have is but images that took 7 mins to download only took 21 secs with the Extreme reader... I should perhaps have bought the reader with 2 GB "Extreme IV" bundle and saved a few £'s, but that's not a criticism!
