Product Description:
Send live video to a web browser anywhere in the world! The Linksys Compact Wireless-G Internet Video Camera sends live video through the Internet to a web browser anywhere in the world! This compact, self-contained unit lets you keep track of your home, your kids, your workplace -- whatever's important to you. Unlike standard "web cams" that require an attached PC, the Internet Video Camera contains its own web server, so it can connect directly to a network, either over Wireless-G (802.11g) networking, or over 10/100 Ethernet cable. The advanced MPEG-4 video compression produces a high-quality, high-framerate, up to 320x240 video stream. The Compact Internet Video Camera's unique form-factor and wireless connectivity allows you to mount it on a wall nearly anywhere, or slip it into its included stand for desktop use. Once it's connected to your home network, you can "see what it sees" from any Windows-based PC in the house, while the video stream is secured from the outside world, hidden behind your Router. If you want the video to be visible from outside your home network, you can open an appropriate port on the Router, and then create password protected accounts to manage access to the camera, or leave it wide open for the world to see. The SoloLink domain service (trial sign-up included) lets you access your camera using an easy-to-remember "name", even if your home Internet connection uses a dynamic IP address. You can also turn on Security Mode, which tells the camera to send a message with a short video attached to up to three email addresses whenever it detects motion in its field of view. You can then log onto the live video stream if the situation warrants. The included Viewer & Recorder utility lets you record the audio/video stream to your local hard drive, "live" or on a predetermined schedule. Let the Linksys Compact Wireless-G Internet Video Camera help you keep tabs on your world.

Customer Reviews

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - Good value for money

Delivered quickly, only problem was that I was sent a EU model not UK that had the wrong power supply. Service was good though and I was sent an adaptor in 24 hrs.
Took a day to set up though, bit of a minefield setting up port forwarding etc etc but finally got there.
Not bad quality, motion detection works well and e-mails images straight away. Although had problems installing the web based applications, didnt like the unsigned didital signatures needed on the active ex control etc.
Overall good value for money.

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - A good camera for what it is..
Firstly, remember this is not an expensive camera and does not do or claim to do everything a £200 camera would do.

It is an IP cam NOT a webcam. That means it will not work for Skype or other chat applications and does not plug into your PC. It is a stand alone IP camera with a built in web server and connects to your home network either wirelessly or with an ethernet cable. It does not need a computer to work, all it needs is to be plugged into the power with your router turned on.

Once connected up, not hard to do if you use the installation setup on the enclosed CD, it will send out a live image stream at 320x240 or lower. The image is bright and clear and refreshes quickly but is blocky if you try to enlarge it. There is on board motion detection with two separately configurable target areas which emails you video clips of up to 5 seconds when movement is detected. It is reliable in use and seems not to need the regular rebooting some other cameras do. You can define which port it uses and can allow public access or restrict it to passworded users.

On the other hand...

As mentioned, the image size is small.
There is no provision to ftp upload images or movies.
It cannot automatically capture still images or save anything to a local or networked computer. It can do this manually from it's web page.
To view the streams you have to use Internet Explorer with an active X control or else use the supplied viewing application. Certain other third party applications may also work.
It cannot be used in anything approaching low light conditions.

That said I am very happy with it and, for the price, would be happy to recommend it to others.

Rating: 1 out of 5 stars - Not Vista compatible
This camera is not vista compatible and i added it to my other pc which is xp and the visual isnt good unless you get a large lamp as well as your main lights to see anything :-(

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - Linksys Wireless-G Camera
The camera needs quite high ambient light for a decent picture and the setup instructions are not very clear, but otherwise not bad value. Certainly avoids leaving a PC turned on all the time!
