![]() Rating: - One note comedyI have only watched the first DVD disk of Chobits which contains the first four episodes of Chobits. I wont be renting the rest of the series. Chobits is a fairly decent anime with a single joke in it. The main character Hideki is scared that other characters will think that he is a pervert because he spends much of the first four episodes with his naked android Chi. nb. in Chobits androids are called "Persocoms". None of the other characters are bothered by this and the comedy is all about Hideki's embarrassment. It this sounds funny to you then buy this immediately, otherwise don't bother. The animation and voice acting is good throughout. Rating: - A wonderful storyThis fabulous story of countryboy Hideki Motosuwa and the persocom Chii which he found at a dumpster is really captivating. The storyline progresses throughout the series with such charisma that you want to watch it without interruption. Chii is innocent and naive like a small child, which makes her immensely cute and combined with Hideki's clumsiness and hysteria there are a lot of very funny moments. The relationship between Hideki and Chii is somewhat like a father with his little daughter when he is teaching Chii several new things and tries to keep her from harm that is lurking in the big city. It is obvious that he cares for Chii, which only grows as the story continues and eventually reaches a climax. It is the combination of humour, love and suspense that makes Chobits one of my favourite anime series ever! Rating: - Heartwarming, but disturbingChobits is, at the beginning at least, the story of Hideki, who moves to Tokyo as a student to enrol in cram school after failing to make university. He rents a room in a house owned by his (attractive) landlady Hibiya. One of the first things Hideki, a country boy, notices is the ubiquity of persocons, personal computers in forms ranging from the small, cute pocket-sized to the full-sized and human-like. Hideki would love one of his own but can't afford one on the little money he has to his name. Amazingly, almost immediately, he finds a naked, discarded persocon in the refuse outside and takes her in. This persocon seems to be something out of the ordinary however, seemingly working without any operating system or software, as well as resisting all attempts to discover what she is by the friends Hideki makes (including his neighbour Shinbo and child prodigy Minoru). Hideki names his new persocon Chii, but he is soon to discover that she has a complex and hidden past... Hideki isn't your entirely typical anime/manga hero, although he's a bit gauche as a country boy and a ronin he's an honest, decent person and, unusually, not unattractive to women, seeing as how he's tall and reasonably good-looking. Most of his embarrassment around the opposite sex seems to stem from his relative isolation while growing up in the countryside. Indeed, most of the male characters seem to be given some depth in characterisation fairly early; not something that I felt about the female ones at the start. However, don't let this put you off because, as we discover, these first impressions are misleading. In the early part of the series, the main relationship, between Hideki and Chii, is actually rather touching, like a parent-child or teacher-student one. It's during these times that the tone of the show is playful and cheeky, firmly in ecchi territory. In particular, the episode where Chii goes out unaccompanied for the first time to buy underwear is hilarious and actually rather sweet. Don't let those early episodes fool you though, in the very next story the tone changes quite markedly and becomes decidedly more serious and in some places, actually disturbing (I'm thinking specifically of the episodes where Chii first goes out to find a job). This sets a marker for the remainder of the series, which deals more with the complexity of the relationships, human and otherwise, that define Hideki's life. In amongst this, as an important thread, sits the issue of Chii's history and identity, not to mention the changing nature of Hideki and Chii's relationship Chobits is, in the end, a very thoughtful series that mixes fun with serious musings on the nature of human identity, love and the nature of humankind's interaction with the technology it has created. If that sounds pretentious and puts you off this series, don't let it because it's all done with a lightness of touch and joy which makes watching it rewarding and enjoyable. And no, we don't find out if Hideki ever makes it into college! Rating: - ChobitsSet in a world where robots are in the form of people and named Persocoms. Asaka truely brings this alternate reality to life. Hideki has just moved from the country to the city and despite his facination with the persocoms, he's too broke to ever afford one. However his look changes when he finds one of the computers in the trash. Her name is Chi and she's unique, unlike any other Persocom seen before and yet there's a fault - she's missing the data she needs to perform properly. Following a hilarious storyline, full of comical situations, which only Hideki could get himself into, we are taken on a journey to teach Chi of the world around her. Aswell as, ofcourse, trying to find Chi's true history and whether she is one of the legendry Chobit robots from myths. I absolutely loved this story. It's so funny and yet really involving, as you wish for Chi to succeed in the world. Anime at it's greatest! Rating: - english voicesChobits rocks , well ive seen all the japanese versions and its an amazing amie with everything you could want. its got the whole forbidden romance vibe , a hell of alot of mystery all over the place, its really funny in places and its got great characters and storyline. Only thing i would say is as this looks to be the english version the voices are just crao compared to the japanese counterparts. Yes i mean when you watch japanese your only reading the subtitles, but you hear the voices too and they fit soo much better. For starters Sumomo is much higher pitched in the japanese version which fits her much better and Hideki's voice is also much more exagerated when he's in one of his states of crazyness ... maybe its just the japanese can do these things better. oh and also Chi's 'chiiiii's sound more Chi like in japanese if that possible :P but yeah i mean whatever version you buy chobits still rocks and is one of the best anime's ive ever watched Try searching the Internet for "The Chobits Collection [2002]" or Ebay for "The Chobits Collection [2002]".
