![]() Rating: - Easy to use and does fantastic coffeeThe only thing that this machine does not do is let you know that it is short on coffee beans - everything else is looked after! As a newcomer to these machines, I was worried that it would be fussy or complicated. I couldn't have been more wrong. We were also wondering if we would use it enough to justify the price. Well, no worries on that front as we use it at least 3 times a day. It tells you when you need to add water, when you need to empty , when you need to clean etc. If it doesn't come with the extra milk container, order one from the Krups site at 12 Pounds- well worth the money as it makes a latte ( or cappucino) perfectly. This has been one of the best kitchen gadgets I have ever bought - in fact, probably the best. Rating: - Impressive coffee machineI owned, until recently, a Nespresso capsule machine. I was sold on the idea of having a perfect cup of coffee every time without any of the mess to clean up afterwards. However, my machine broke down and so I reconsidered my options. After some argument, my partner and I decided to try a bean to cup machine and I confess that I am now totally sold on this machine. The machine is easy to use and makes both espresso and larger cups of coffee (you can select a regular or strong cup for each). It is also possible to alter the volume of coffee produced for each cup by simply turning a dial and the digital display ensures that you know exactly what you will get. I also value the fact that I can alter how hot the finished coffee will be and the ability to select the degree to which the bean is ground. I looked at lots of other bean to cup machines and this is one of the smallest around (some alternatives would swamp a work surface). Oh and my concerns about messy cleaning were totally unfounded - the coffee grounds come out as very dry discs that can go straight into a compost bin and the cleaning needed is minimal (I would say it is actually easier than the Nespresso machine that I previously used). The best bit about this machine is that it will take a mug under the dispenser, which is ideal if you like a larger cup of coffee. The only (I feel minor) flaw I can think of is that the beans tend to stick at the wrong end of the hopper when close to being empty, away from the grinding mechanism. The machine does not detect there are no beans being ground, so you can end up with a mug of hot water rather than coffee. It is easily fixed by ensuring the beans are manually pushed to the correct end of the hopper, or by topping up the hopper before it gets close to empty. This machine wins for me by producing the exact size and strength of coffee that I enjoy with ease - and I am saving around 30% per month against the cost of buying capsules as well! Update: 10 June 2008 Having used this coffee machine for a further few months, I would now rate it as a one star machine. I contacted Krups customer service about the continuing issue of beans getting stuck at one end of the hopper (opposite the grinder) and they asked me to send the machine in for repair - but they denied there was any design issue and I cannot see an obvious fault in my actual hopper that could be fixed. To cut a long story short, Krups customer service is not very good. My machine has gone on to become glitchy, refusing to make cups of coffee at all on many occasions but, even though the machine comes with a one year guarantee (extendable to three years allegedly when the registration card is returned), Krups customer service now states that they may not cover the machine at all, even though it is still within the one year warranty period! My machine is going back and I intend to get a refund rather than replace it. I feel very strongly that Krups is not a brand that I would trust any longer. I no longer feel that the machine is worth the price paid and that is mostly down to my experience of contacting customer support. I did not expect my machine to break down this quickly and the fact that it did does not auger well for the future - particularly if Krups customer support do not offer support!
