![]() Rating: - Underwater camera!!!!!!! Rubbish!!I brought this camera due to my panasonic lumiz TZ3 breaking after water spilt on it. And as im travelling the world i thought it would make sense to get a water proof camera. I had the camera for about 2 weeks and was disappointed already with the quality of the pictures it took, my guess is they had to compensate on the internal parts to make an affordable underwater camera! Then came the first test underwater on a snorkel trip in malaysia, and to be fair to the camera it took pictures ok till the end of the day where there was water in the lense. The water evaporated a day later, so the camera was ok again. I then went the next 3 months tarvelling with it but not underwater, and still taking disappointing photos due to the quality of the camera. Then came a snorkel trip in the Philippinnes where took my camera and so did another traveller whop had the newer olympus1030sw. We both ventured into the water with our camera's and after 10 minutes of snorkelling BOTH our camera had stopped working and the battery compartment was full of water!!!!!!! Its now 5 days later and they still dont work. My opinion is if you want a camera that goes underwater , just buy one of the special housings that go round certain cameras! the only good point about this camera is that it is tough, you can drop it or bash it about but dont take it in WATER!!!! Rating: - Very good sports cameraBulletproof and works everywhere, great surfing photos resulting. Minor quibbles are the lack of optical stabilisation and the useless chipping paint on the front of my black one. That aside i love the little thing. Rating: - Surf, Sail, Ski and the ArmyI've had this camera now for just less than a year, was just looking for an upgrade and thought I'd add my two pence. As another review mentions this is not a camera for professionals who want light, contrast, large zoom and everything. It is however a great camera for those who enjoy the outdoors. Mine has coped with surfing (tucked in my wetsuit), sailing and skiing, on top of all that it has coped with almost a year of the Army, on exercise where it got a good bashing around but when you need it to take a picture come rain, snow or desert conditions it'll still do. Rating: - Exceeded my expectations- great picture and build qualityHave just returned from the Red Sea, where we christened this camera underwater...the quality is outstanding. Other comments that it's 'a bit heavy' are a bit far-fetched...I'd call it's weight 'reassuring'- it feels really solid, and it is. The underwater pictures (and videos) of fish/coral/people were excellent, and it has three underwater modes (incl. macro) for best results. Only criticism was that it's a little fiddly to change modes underwater, but you get used to it after a short time. Pictures above sea level came out well, though the flash is a little strong for indoor pics. To be honest, you can't have everything in a camera of this price...that's what DSLRs are for! I have owned/used a lot of different cameras, and I was really impressed with this. Aside from underwater use, it's also ideal for us as we do lots of hiking/climbing in Snowdonia etc, so it's great for pictures when it's a bit damp/muddy as you can literally wash it under the tap! It gets my 5 stars, and I'm not that easily impressed! Rating: - Tough cameraPicture quality is good but not outstanding, although it is way ahead of what you get from an ordinary camera in a waterproof housing. Great for the beach, and swimming pool , but there are better options if you dont need the bombproof features. Also bear in mind that the depth rating of 10 metres is in still water. Moving water - waves for example- will generate much higher pressures, so this camera would not be suitable for surfing or windsurfing. Overall this is probably best as a second camera for use in tougher environments.
