 Rating:  - OverwhelmingI'm no film buff nor literary critic so excuse this amateur appraisal but, for me, Deep Water was one of those films you'll remember for the rest of your life. It was painfully tagic, with no winners, only pain and heartache for all concerned. Very well put together, great contributions from fellow sailors, journalists and family with wonderful footage from the time. It's now over a year since I last saw it and it still haunts me. What different times yachtsmen live in today but it doesn't alter the fact that we are all just human, all equally fallible. Great film. Rating: - deeply movingI have been aware of the Donald Crowhurst story for some time. I think this film very moving. No body will ever know what really happened to Donald Crowhurst in his final days. We have a record of his last logs. I found this story very moving, right to the end Rating: - None of Us are PerfectAS WITH SOME PREVIOUS REVIEWS, I TOO HAD,HAD LITTLE SYMPATHY FOR CROWHURST WHEN READING VARIOUS BOOKS COVERING THE 'GOLDEN GLOBE RACE' AND THE FATE OF DONALD CROWHURST, BUT SOMEHOW BY SEEING THE ARCHIVE FOOTAGE AND THE INTERVIEWS OF HIS FAMILY AND PEOPLE INVOLVED IN THE PROJECT OF ACTUALLY GETTING CROWHURST TO THE START LINE, THEN YOU REALLY START TO FEEL FOR CROWHURST AS A PERSON. TO ACTUALLY SEE THE TORMENT AND DOUBT IN HIS FACE AND VOICE BEFORE SETTING OUT, I STARTED TO ASK MYSELF, WHY DID NOT SOMEONE STOP HIM.I FOUND THE DVD THOROUGHLY ABSORBING,SAD AND BY THE TIME CROWHURST IS LOSING HIS MIND TOWARDS THE END YOU JUST WISHED SOMEONE COULD HAVE SAID "YOU CAN COME HOME DONALD, IT DOES NOT MATTER!" Rating: - Heroes all!I saw this video after reading 'A voyage for madmen' which is itself a brilliant read. I am captivated by the sheer courage of these contestants, 9 from all the world. I have loads of sympathy for Donald Crowhurst (and the other non finishers), and greatest admiration for Robin Knox Johnston ( I have almost finished reading his own account of the cvoyage - 'A World of My Own' - another brilliant read. I am sad that Don Crowhurst's trimaran was left to rot in the Cayman Islands. That would have been something to pay to see, alongside 'Suhaili', Gypsy Moth ( which I have seen), and others. Donald Crowhurst was a tragic hero. It is a pity he didn't brave it out and come back home. He could have finished second ( no prize money there) and could have spent his remaining years lecturing to Women's Institutes throughout the world (maybe the thought of that tipped him over the edge!No offence meant). Who would care if he didn't actually go round the world, getting to the south atlantic and back is a major feat in itself. Obviously , it would have been better for him to come clean and return home to his wife and young family, but several months alone in a vast ocean must be very unnerving (ask RKJ!). Rating:  - Holds your interestThis is a documentary. We wanted to watch something different and consciously chose this as it sounded interesting. When we started watching we realized we had actually seen this before - or at least most of it - already on TV. It seemed to us the film version was longer, and in any case despite having seen at least some of it before, we enjoyed watching it again.
