Editorial Review: Product Description: Detachable Shaft / Recipe Booklet Average Rating:
![]() Rating: - base is poor qualityThe blender is fantastic the plastic blender recepticle is very poor quality have used it only a few times less than 12 and it is cracked and have now binned it as it is leaking. This is really disappointing .The blender is really great. Rating: - what's the problem? This is a fantastic blender - I have no idea what the other reviewers were doing with theirs to get such bad results - it is a substantial handheld blender, easily detachable and washable shaft. Only thing I found which is true is it does get hot when used for too long - but a hand blender shouldn't be used for too large a job anyway! Rating: - I give upSigh. This is the third blender I've owned, and I'm giving up on finding a decent one. I got this one after physically inspecting about 10 different blenders. My main requirement was that it can be disassembled for cleaning, or the seal between the shaft and axle is good enough to never need disassembling. A previous blender I owned gradually turned into a composter over 6 months and smelly sludge started to ooze out of the gap when blending, obviously useless for preparing food with. I don't own a dishwasher and don't want to spend 10 minutes trying to clean it for every 1 minute of use. This Marco Pierre blender has a very good seal - there is no gap at all, so I'm hoping food can't leak into it. If it does, I'll update this review. Secondly another blender I owned broke quickly because the plastic teeth on the motor that engage the axle were too weak. The Marco Pierre has 4 chunky looking teeth which look a lot stronger than the other design which had 8 flatter teeth. There are only 2 metal protusions on the axle for the teeth to grip (the same in all blenders), so the fewer (chunkier) teeth the better. With regard to the build quality, yes the "aluminium" effect is cheap and tacky, but what impressed me is that the blade axle has very little play, and doesn't bind (what happens when bearings are too tight), I haven't seen any other blender like that. Also the motor is a lot quieter than other blenders I've tried, and doesn't sacrifice power for it. However, my reason for giving it 2 stars is it has an egregious fault not mentioned by the other reviews. The interface between the detachable shaft and motor unit is flakey. Twice, the suction force from blending (on the lowest setting) caused it to drop off. I don't think it was attached properly, but then there is zero indication of whether it's attached properly or not. Sometimes there is a definite click and it's engaged, other times it engages without the click and others it doesn't. So, I have to tug it to test it everytime before using, and even when it is engaged the latch seems stretchy. Relatedly, the release button feels spongey, I think it relies on the elasticity of bent plastic instead of a real spring. It's a fault I can live with but wouldn't have bought it if I'd known about it. [*] update: The motor is quiet only when not attached to anything. When blending the plastic latch vibrates like hell.
