Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - What a bargain!
Acer Aspire 7520 Notebook Laptop, AMD 64x2 Dual Core TK55 1.8GHz, 17" TFT, 1024MB RAM, 80GB Hard-drive, DVD±RW, GeForce7000 Graphics, WiFi, Vista Home Premium You will be hard to find a bigger bargain than this excellent laptop for £300. Yes it could do with more RAM as Vista struggles to cope with 1024 MB, but you can upgrade that for under £25, so no big deal. In fact a 4GB flash key at £12.99 can do the job better if you don't mind it hanging out the side. Or perhaps a 2GB SD card in the card reader. Once you have turned off all the power sapping Vista tricks and got it looking like XP, it starts up quicker specially if you un-install the trial of Norton Security, what a drag on resources that is, total overkill. I do have one gripe though, the keyboard, although comprehensively specified with a full number pad and keys for just about anything you could think of, is flimsy, flexy and bends as you type on it. OK for Emailing but if you are writing a thesis, plug in a decent USB keyboard. That glossy screen is great for playing DVD's but you need to tweak the settings so you can see when you have highlighted something. Why do I dislike Vista so?

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Great laptop
I love this laptop. The screen is a great size and looks awesome. The shape of the laptop is cool, and overall, its great to look at and use. I cant fault its looks or its packaging. Plus, great delivery from Amazon.

This is my first time using Windows Vista, and I have to say, I cant understand why so many people hate on it. Sure, there's compatibility issues with some programs, but that's the only major problem I've come across so far. I would've used XP if it was offered, but I've grown to love Vista, especially the search function, it works *so* well. Since Ive used it, Vista hasnt ever fully crashed. Its much more reliable than my desktop.

I haven't upgraded the ram, and I find the laptop generally fine, although there is a little slowdown when I have lots of programs open, especially when I'm using my Tv tuner (which is designed for PCs with a 2.8Ghz processor and it works just fine when on it's own).

It never gets too loud, or excessively warm. I've found no really big issues with it, although there are some minor annoyances.

For starters, although it comes with an 80gig HDD, 10ish gigs are used for Vista itself (huuuuge OS) Another 10ish Gig is used by the laptop as a back-up partition (as far as I am aware, but I think that is what it is used for) so you only get around 60gigs of storage. I'm running out of space (2 months of usage), and need an additional harddrive. (By the way, make sure you have some blank DVDs to make system backups)

Another thing to note is that the touchpad is off centre (so as to be in the centre of the alphabet keyboard as opposed to being between the alphabet and numerical pad). I often catch the mouse when typing, so I have to disable (using the Fn+F7 shortcut). I also find the touchpad a little unresponsive. I have bought a mouse (well, it was included with my 3 year warranty) which I use.

The "lack" of 20gigs of useable HDD space is rather annoying (although, I should have thought of it tbh), and therefore I've taken off a star, along with the trackpad issues. However, I love using the laptop, as both my main pc, and around the house. I would easily reccomend.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - A portable desktop
I bought this machine at GBP399 and it's now down to 299, which is getting into the realms of unbelievably cheap. It comes with Windows Vista Home Premium which I can only recommend to up/downgrade to XP - search google for drivers.
The 1GB RAM is just about enough (in XP) and the 80GB HDD is fine for normal use, but note that there's an empty second HDD slot just waiting to be filled with any 2.5" SATA drive.
For the price (especially at 299) it's an amazing piece of kit and has lots of opportunities to cheaply upgrade to a serious machine - a real "desktop on the road."
4.5/5

Rating: 2 out of 5 stars - Looks good till you turn it on!
Looks very nice very clear/sharp screen but performance is a big let down never used AMD before and never will again, It comes with an 80GB hard drive which has been partitioned 3 ways giving you nothing for storage!

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - A Bargin Machine!!!!
The Acer Aspire 7520 is to be fair a Bargin and more than worth the money, most of the other reviews are correct, it is a fairly fast machine, yes it would benefit from a 2GB chipset, but it manages well on the 1GB chipset it has. It is of a sound construction and doesnt seem cheaply finished off, perhaps not as flash as some other brands but again you cant complain for the price. So if you need a general all round laptop for the internet, word processing, photo editing snd so on and so forth then this is for you, if you need a gaming laptop then spend alot more money, or invest in the faster chipset and enhance this machine.

Try searching the Internet for "Acer Aspire 7520 Notebook Laptop, AMD 64x2 Dual Core TK55 1.8GHz, 17" TFT, 1024MB RAM, 80GB Hard-drive, DVD±RW, GeForce7000 Graphics, WiFi, Vista Home Premium" or Ebay for "Acer Aspire 7520 Notebook Laptop, AMD 64x2 Dual Core TK55 1.8GHz, 17" TFT, 1024MB RAM, 80GB Hard-drive, DVD±RW, GeForce7000 Graphics, WiFi, Vista Home Premium".
