Editorial Review: Product Description: Your baby's first step, your wedding in Bali, all your important milestonesall captured in digital photos and video. What could be more important? Store them safely and keep them backed up on My Book Home Edition external hard drives. Main Features:Easy to set up, easy to use - Installation is a snap because you don't really install this drive, you just plug it in and it's ready to use. There is no CD to install; the included software loads from the drive the first time you plug it inAutomatic backup - S... Average Rating:
![]() Rating: - Simple to use, Brilliant Product!Like another review said, If your a bit of a computer geek, or you know what your doing. Don't bother looking at the software pre-loaded. Just format the device to NTFS. Speeds are good on both USB + Firewire, Can't speak for eSata because there was no cable! I've Partitioned the hard drive into 4 seperate parts and it works lovely! The only thing which confuses me is how to turn the drive off, I know theres a button on the back - But you push it, the lights do something but it remains on. So what you do is, 'Safely remove the device' from your computer. Then Hit the power button. Then its switched off :) One handy product is the little WD icon tray program that allows you see how much storage has been used and wether the temp is running okay. Apart from the above power button issue, which after learning your get the hang of. I'm happy with the product and would recommend it! Rating: - software needs further purchaseIf you are tech savvy then you probably wont need the bundled software and wont install it but if you do you are in for further expense. A lot of people have written to their website FAQ complaining that the product advertising does not mention further expense required and are unhappy about doing so.. I certainly am Rating: - First ImpressionsVery please with My Book as an external hard drive but not so please with supplied software. Paid significantly more for this product over the price of equivalent "Essential" EHD so as to get the automatic back-up software. Once downloaded this software did required back-up and as promised continued to keep tabs on what was happening so backing up as it went along. However system was so so slow. After matter of days had to remove and back-up by drag and drop. By slow I mean very very slow. So slow that it could not log on to internet. Once removed all back to normal broadband speeds. So my recommendation - If you want back-up buy the cheaper "Essential" product. Rating: - Very Good HDD overallSo far only using the external HDD as a backup drive, and so far so good, managed to copy under 200 GB in a few hours using USB 2.0, not tried the firewire nor the esata connections yet. It's also not too big nor too heavy (slightly bigger than a thick book that I'm reading at the moment) which is good. My only gripes so far are the fact that I'll have to buy my own esata cable, which over here isn't in great supply yet, and the trial software bundled in with the HDD. Fortunately I have no actual need for the software as I can use the existing windows interfaces to do what I need. I would have liked to pay more if I could have got an esata cable bundled in with the HDD (the reason for the 4 stars) but now I'll have to try and find a place that has a specific cable in stock.
