This was excellent by any standard you choose to measure it against and it held me spellbound. The detailed research made the story shine with realism and the characters came alive. It was so easy to suspend belief, truely the mark of a great storyteller. Tom Clancy's Powerplays: Ruthless.com is quite the opposite. There was clearly little research, the characters are superficial and the plot weak and predictable. The climax, if that is not too strong a word, was obvious from very early in the story and unbearably contrived. The story then just fizzled out like a damp squib. I was left dissatisfied and with a sense of having been conned into buying a very sub-standard book on the strength of the author's name.
