Rating: - Could do with updatingI've been quite a fan of the Lonely Planet guide books even though I'm not really a 'budget traveller' any more. However, this particular guide could really do with updating. Almost all of the costs quoted are way off the mark (the reality being that most hotels/entrance prices are near enough double). It also suffers from the Lonely Planet curse of reverse snobbery - ie. describing anywhere that sees more than one tourist a year as being spoilt by 'over-development'. I found many cities and towns in Mexico both lovely and vibrant regardless of the descriptions in this book. Don't be put off. Rating: - Big helpThis is as good as the guides of Mexico get. It is a big country and things can change fast (hotels, resturants go out of biz ect.). Overall I think this book covers the country as well as can be expected, it will lead the novice to some great places you might not otherwise find, but old hands will not get as much use out of it. I recommend a person buy guild books that specialize in certain areas of Mexico, i.e. there are some great books on the Yucatan. If you are looking for a good beach read I recomend: "A Tourist in the Yucatan" a thriller/mystery that is like a travelog of the Yucatan, fun book!
