Rating:  - I love this book!I've just started out with a small veggie patch in my back garden, and this book has been instrumental in the planning and development of the plot. Down to earth and clear, every vegetable is discussed in depth including typical pests (and how to prevent them) and recommended varieties. Great as a reference, but also as bedtime reading while planning next year! Rating: - a great book on growing vegCarol Klein is great to watch on TV and her enthusiasm shines through into the book. Full of information in the most accessible form it is so easy to follow and by far the best book around on growing your own. I love the format of this book and find it an invaluable source of information. Highly recommended. Rating: - BrilliantMy husband bought this book for me after I watched and raved about the first programme in the series. I have been dipping into it ever since. As a keen but not highly experienced gardener it has been an invaluable source of information, especially with things I had never contemplated growing myself-such as jerusalem artichokes. Carols personality shines through in the book which makes it even more inspiring as she has such enthusiasm for her subject. I would certainly recommend anyone buy it! The first part of the book gives information on hw to prepare a vegetable plot, planning your plot out (what to grow where and when) and information on problems encountered when growing vegetables. There is a good calendar giving information on what you can be dong that month. The rest of the book is dedicated to the vegetables - over 40 different types. So a very good range. There is information on what sort of soil and site each vegetable prefers, how and when to sow, what needs doing as the seedlings grow, different varieties of each type of veg (photos provided), how and when to harvest, storage and preperation info. Very informative, easy to follow book. Ideal for the new vegetable gardener or someone who is thinking of expanding their range of veg. Rating: - A fantastic bookI would highly recommend this book to anyone interested in growing their own vegetables, whether on a large plot or a small back yard. Again Carol's enthusiasm comes through in both the television programme and the wonderfully laid out book. The book is a comprehensive guide to British veg and is not to be missed. Everything from the background to the plants through to growing conditions and variety recommendations are include. A great read!
