 Rating:  - SAME OLD RUBBISHVery poor book that is a biased account of the Irish Troubles. The authors images are strong but editorial content does not allow for balance. Men who are guilty of the most disgusting crimes in Irish history are hailed as pillars of the community. Photographs of their victims and the anguish of the victims families are blatantly disregarded. Left out is how they tortured Catholics and Protestants, knee capped and beat people with baseball bats covered in nails, not to mention their bombings and shootings. That is the reality of the IRA - one which this book avoids. This book adds to the romance of Irish republicanism but fails to mention the 2,500 they murdered, not to mention the tens of thousands injured. Rating:  - Wasted OpportunityThis is a story that needs to be told - the oppressed Nationalist people of the Six Counties. I am probably biased in that I come from this background and also because I live in and know many of the areas and people mentioned in the book. To me this is the problem, too many names mispelt, too many factual inaccuracies etc. There is no doubt that there are some very powerful images, unfortunately the accompanying prose does not reach the same heights. Perhaps Oistin should have stuck strictly to his own images or employed a ghost writer. Like I said, a wasted opportunity.
