George Wimpey Knights Cross Hants - 2008/03/31 10:38 Our home was purchased in December 2006 and we moved in on the 16th of January 2007. Our initial snagging list comprised 81 items. Since then many more have been added.
The house was not connected to the main sewer which was only discovered 6 months after we moved in and only then because I threw a tantrum in the Sales Office demanding some action over the lack of drainage from showers, bath and toilets.
The insulation in the roof space is still not complete; the double glazing in the kitchen and lounge is draughty and leaks; the central heating does not work on the second floor, and the extras we paid money for are cheap and nasty; not to mention poorly fitted. (A far cry from what was on show in the show house!) The porch pillars that almost fell over were repaired months ago but we are still waiting for the workers to secure the wooden posts to the brickwork!
The patio is uneven and with loose slabs, and allows water to collect against the house. GW management tell me it looks ok to them!
The wardrobes fitted by their subcontractor cover the only spare electrical socket and tv aerial point in the master bedroom but this is (apparently) my fault because I didn't get my measurements right. Remember that the wardrobes were an extra offered by them!
Customer Service has been and is virtually non-existent and we are treated with contempt by the management of George Wimpey (Southern) which I now understand is called Taylor Wimpey.
Deadlines set by them have passed without action, workmen fail to arrive with no explanation from Wimpey and those that do arrive often say the work is not their responsiblity or that they don't have the correct tools / parts / expertise. I have sent literally dozens of emails, made countless phone calls and written numerous letters - all to no avail. Even the NHBC has failed to respond to my letters. The problems have all but taken over our life!
My advice to anyone considering purchasing a George Wimpey (Taylor Wimpey) home - DON'T!
