Windows - 2006/09/03 16:12 Having been in my new Geo Wimpey house for 3 months, I have just noticed due to some recent cold weather, misting on the outside of our double glazing. Our last home where we had the glazing put in, never experienced this problem even in the coldest winters but this recent situation seems a bit odd. my understanding is that there should be minimal heat loss and this is indicative of cold air meating a warm surface. Most propertioes on the estate exhibit similar characteristics. Oddly enough, we have had a couple of individual pains replaced due to scratches and they carry different markings between the panes but these remain mist freeie...left hand patio door is misty, right hand is not. Is there a standard? Are GW using seconds?

Re:Windows - 2006/09/03 20:47 Hi Harry,

I assume you are talking about condensation on the inside of the outer pane. If this is the case, the double glazing unit needs to be replaced.

This is caused by the seal being broken which allows moist air between the panes which eventually overwhelms the water absorbing material within the double glazing unit.

Do your neightbours a favour and let them know what the situation is, as it is unlikely that George Wimpey Homes will.

Let us know how you get on

Tony
