Countryside Properties Asbestos Scandal
Countryside Properties commissioned an evironmental assessment on the site of what was the world's largest asbestos factory in Spodden Vally, which stated: Of particular note is the absence of any asbestos contamination. A separate report commissioned by Rochdale Council in July 2006 painted a very different picture.

A survey conducted by YouGov shows that only 53 percent want more house building encouraged in their area, while 32 percent think house building should be discouraged and 15 percent say it should be prevented.
